Q8 Please enter comments below related to the teacher candidate's lesson plan(s):

I reviewed multiple lesson plans Ms. Brown developed since my last visit. The plans were consistently aligned with Virginia Beach
Objectives and with the SOL's. The plans included all lesson components and they stated often differentiation "by grouping." The
assessment indicated formative assessment with anecdotal documentation of progress in an ongoing manner.

Q10 Please enter general comments below related to your observations.

Upon my arrival, Ms. Brown was providing reading instruction to a small-group of third grade students on "Theme versus Main Idea."
Ms. Brown questioned the students on prior knowledge and then she had the students complete a sort. They discussed the character
trait organizer to think about characters from the previously read text.

Q11 What went well:

There was evidence of effective instruction and behavior management strategies. Ms. Brown gave a time warning with clapping
syllables and sort activity. She redirected the students as needed.

Q12 What could be done differently:

Further engage the students during small-group. Intentionally include all learners at all times. We discussed the teacher's body
language, student positioning, the use of small white boards, etc.

Q13 Candidate's strengths:

There were meaningful learning activities that were designed to help the students process and practice the content.
Documentation of Student Progress: Ms. Brown showed multiple charts of how she is documenting progress and using data in an
ongoing manner. There was collaborating on quarterly benchmark data and instructional decision-making.

Q14 Areas that need refinement:

Keep improving in regards to articulating in your plans how you are differentiating in regard to content, process, or product (CPP).

Q15 Focus for next observation:

I will focus on how Ms. Brown transitions to the primary grades. I will also look for improvements with student involvement. Overall, this
was a great observation!
