I

To whom it may concern,

It is with great pleasure that I write a letter of recommendation for Xochitl Varona. I met
Xochitl in the fall of 2016. She was a junior in my US History class. Although soft spoken, I
learned quickly that Xochitl was thoughtful and determined. She appeared to be the type
Claudia Ruf of person who at a young age had set clear goals for herself and was in the process of
Principal
rufc@hsd.k12.or.us achieving them one step at a time. Throughout the year I came to realize my initial
impressions were accurate as Xochitl proved herself to be a kind and versatile advocate
Dave Vickery for herself and others. When she asked me to write a letter for her, it was a no-brainer; I
Assistant Principal

Kelly Cox In US History class students are assessed on varied ways of communicating. There are
Assistant Principal debates, graded discussions, essays, interviews and visual presentations to name a few of

them. Xochitl excelled in all areas, earning a solid A during both semesters. For the final
project, students create a presentation making an argument for who they feel is the most
influential American. Her argument for comic-book writer / film-producer Stan Lee stood
above the rest in her class of 35. In fact, it was among the most professional, complete
project among all my 175 juniors. What impressed me most about this was that she
could have gotten an A with less effort, but instead challenged herself to produce
something more meaningful.

Another thing that impresses me about Xochitl is her willingness to serve those in the
community. Often high school students will volunteer because they know they need a
certain amount of hours or because it looks good on applications. I truly believe that
Glencoe High School
Xochitl invests in community service because she knows it is the right thing to do. In

 a safe and caring part of who she is. There is no limit to the positive impact this young woman can have on

a school, a community, a society.
 that sets and
achieves high
standards It is for all of these reasons that I strongly encourage you to consider Xochitl’s application
 where learning is for acceptance. I have no problem saying with confidence that wherever Xochitl decides
rigorous and
engaging to continue her education will be a better place with her on campus. She has my
complete and total recommendation. Please do not hesitate to contact me if there are
any questions or concerns. Thank you.
