BGTA.xls
The fundamental philosophy of this project is to
reduce the manual entries made by the user to the
barest minimum, outputting results of calculations
on to charterers' and/or owners' standard forms.
All ship specific data for computing volumes for cargo, fuel, fresh water and ballast are incorporated into
the program as well as some of the vessel's contour dimensions.
Each segregation has a sub-menu for appending data to VEF record and master database,
for step-by-step increment/decrement. etc.
Ullage Report
This sheet is the charterer's ullage report for tank ship. The titles automatically change according
to the type of cargo and calculation tables selected.
Stresses
The stress page provides in tabular and chart presentations, the results of the longitudinal stress
calculations for bending moments and shearing forces.
Hydrostatic Calculation
In this page, hydrostatic calculation is featured for input of drafts at the gauges and at the
marks. The vessel's contours have been fed in so that the drafts "on the other side" can be
ascertained when only "one side" drafts have been taken. Just enter the list and the drafts on
one side to obtain accurate drafts on the opposite side. Every tanker man knows that it is
practically impossible to read all six drafts at most tanker jetties.
The program also provides the facility for projecting the draft gauges to the draft marks. This is
useful when the drafts at the marks cannot be taken - for well known reasons such as poor
visibility conditions or the need to complete cargo calculations as quickly as possible.
Accumulation of sludge can be determined by the value of the "Constant". This being the
difference in the displacement as per the draft marks and the displacement as per the manual
inputs of ullages, etc.
OBQ/ROB Report
This is the charterer's standard form for OBQ/ROB. The results are computed for the measured
dip and trim and automatically reflected in the associated Ullage Report and Port Log.
Slops Certificate
This sheet is similar to the OBQ/ROB sheet. The oil+water and water only quantities are
computed for the measured ullages and interface, corrected for trim and heel. The results are
reflected in the associated Ullage Report and Port Log.
LOP Delays
The charterer's standard form protesting delays incurred during the period of port stay.
LOP No Papers
Another charterer's form that is auto-updated with figures in readiness for issuing a protest for a
situation where the vessel is forced to sail without issuance of cargo papers by the terminal or
shippers.
LOP Spare
This form is used when a protest letter has to be issued on a subject that is not covered by the
forms above. The user enters the titles and text. The other legal "jargon" is already entered.
Deadweight Statement
This form is the charterer's deadfreight statement standard form. Much of the data is auto-
updated from relevant cells in other sheets or simply by the click of a button.
Voyage Report
The charterer's standard form for reporting voyage conditions.
Pumping Log
This is the charterer's standard form for discharge pumping conditions. If online facility is
provided as in the case of the sample ship here, the program will stop each hour, on the hour,
with sound alerts and present a dialog box for the user to enter the required data such as
manifold pressure, pump discharge pressure, bulk pumping rate, etc.
Port Log
The arrival and departure cargo details in this sheet are updated at a click of a button. Other
details such as times and dates have to be manually entered.
The results are transferred to the following with tabulated and/or chart
representations and may be printed at will -
Trim / Stability;
stress pages;
Record of V.E.F. for last 10, 20 and 30 voyages;
Charterer's and Owner's forms, viz. Letters of protest for BL discrepancies,
delays, free water, port log, Ullage Report, Stowage Plan, etc.
Hydrostatic calculation (draft survey) with hog or sag deflection is also included.
Online update of tank ullages (where such hardware fitted - we can undertake
turnkey installation of hardware too, at dry-dock)
New Reports;
Print;
Backsolve to required - Nett MT, Barrels, DWT or Draft;
Change SW density - same cargo/ballast;
A scratchpad for quick conversion from degrees F'ht to C, Ft to M and vice
versa with resultant DWT for that Ft or M.
Also included is the extremely powerful and much used (by the Chief Officers), add-
in called "Solver".
We offer to write a similar spreadsheet for a fee, for any tanker operator/owner who
may get in touch with us by e-mail for a sample spreadsheet at: sales@cargocal.com

Also calculated, is the loss of GM upon touching the blocks during dry-docking.

Back Solve
You may select an item from the list above to backsolve to.
Example:
You may need to know, with the given the cargo API/Density and
temperatures (which would be entered in the "Ull Rep" page and the
Constant/Fuel/FW/Ballast conditions (entered in the "C Fuel FW B" page),
and the OBQ ("Wedge" page) and Slops onboard ("SlopCert" page), what the
cargo loadable would be for a "Mean-Draft" of 12.192 M Sea Water?
The distribution of the cargo tank-wise with the resultant drafts, trim and list
would not usually be satisfactory. For a satisfactory distribution, the user would
need to use the "Solver" facility.
Return
Solver
Solver is an add-in that comes with Excel (Tools menu).
The set cell is "AVG-ALL STRESS", which is a cell in the spreadsheet that
represents the average of all the BM and Shear Forces. The demand is
to "MINIMISE" the stresses.
The Changeable (Variable) cells are "CARGO GAUGES", which are the MMC
Ullages in the table. Additional variable cells may be added, viz. Ballast Tank
Gauges.
The constraints are many - (up to 100 constraints may be included in this part
of the dialog box). The constraints not seen in the picture above are:
Any Chief Officer would be delighted to use this add-in and it would be
redundant to point out that the cost of the add-in is well worth the time saved
in this aspect of loading/discharging operations.

Hydrostatic Calculation
Facility is provided to compute the weight of the cargo on board by hydrostatic
calculations from the draft gauges as well as from the observed drafts at the draft
marks.

We have included a facility to search from the master database, details of all previous
cargoes. The user may search and output to screen, data as selected from the
following criteria.
Cargo Grade
Load Port
Heating Cargo
The output fields include: Voyage Number, B/L Date, TCV & B/L volumes, type of
load port (Pier/SBM/STS or Part), whether heating or not, avg. load temp and API.

Microsoft Excel
Online hardware, if online updating required
Modern notebook / desktop PC.
Fully Integrated Maritime & Offshore software solutions
What we Offer
orcomms offers complete solutions to all the processes of the Maritime industry whether it is shipowning functions, ship management functions, ship
operations, ship accounting, ship broking, ship communications, ship chartering or ship weather routing.
All the various modules are natively integrated in a robust database combined with the respective modules.
Even though the modules are tightly integrated, each of the modules can work perfectly in the stand-alone mode also.
Being integrated, each of the modules in our system talk to each other internally, which reduces the need for paperwork.
interface is also the same for all the users in the enterprise irrespective of their department. Access to the modules is controlled by the administrator,
hence only the authorised person can access a particular module.
Payments Module
Planning Reports for on board and ashore personnel. Multiple crew list
generated for U.S. immigration and other authorities. Crew data population
into the system can be outsourced to our Services, where the relevant Crew
applications, Crew Cards, certificates etc. can be prepopulated into the
database for the entire fleet.
Complete movements and daily reports with all specific and average figures
Charter party over/under performance evaluation in actual financial terms,
providing complete defence against claims. Informs management with
voyage financial reports and post voyage analysis. -- The function of
inputting the daily telegrams form the vessel to the system can be
outsourced to our Services, where our data centre receive these
telegrams from the client’s vessel and remotely update the system
within a specified time frame, allowing the client to view updated vessel
positions and consumptions at any point in time.
