Mini Lessons - 7 lines
Exposure to different poetry types - Topic 1, two adjectives about topic 1, three –ing
words about topic 1, a short phrase connecting topic
1 and 2, three –ing words about topic 2, two
adjectives about topic 2, topic 2
- Can be antonyms or synonyms
- Does not have to rhyme
Limerick (week 2 & 3)
- Meant to be humorous
- 5 lines
- AABBA structure
- Syllable structure: 6-8, 6-8, 4-6, 4-6, 6-8
Assessment : Final assessment: students will compile all of their poems together for a ‘Class Poetry Book’ which will contain the 4 poems (ABC, haiku,
diamante and limerick) of each student.

- Is about two opposite things (antonyms) or the same thing (synonyms)

- Is funny/humorous
- Has 5 lines
- Follows the AABBA structure
- Has 6-8 syllables on the 1st, 2nd and 5th line
- Has 4-6 syllables on the 3rd and 4th line
