Lesson Idea Name: Math Understanding Check

Content Area: Math
Grade Level(s): 2nd
Content Standard Addressed: MGSE2.0A.2 Fluently add and subtract within 20 using mental strategies. By
end of Grade 2, know from memory all sums of two one-digit numbers. Use place value understanding and
properties of operations to add and subtract

Technology Standard Addressed:

1c Students use technology to seek feedback that informs and improves their practice and to demonstrate
their learning in a variety of ways.
Selected Technology Tool:
☒ Socrative ☐ iRespond ☐ Quizlet ☐ Plickers ☐ Kahoot! ☐ Office365 Forms
☐ Other:
URL(s) to support the lesson (if applicable):

Technology that student will use to respond to questions/prompts:

☒ Computer ☐ Hand-held student response system (like iRespond) ☒ Phone ☒ Tablet (such as iPad)
☒ Other wireless device (such as iPod Touch)
Type of session:
☒ Teacher-Paced ☒ Student-Paced
Bloom’s Taxonomy Level(s):
☐ Remembering ☐ Understanding ☒ Applying ☐ Analyzing ☐ Evaluating ☐ Creating

Universal Design for Learning (UDL): This SRL activity can make sure that the students being engaged and
learning in a different way. It allows them to access previous knowledge to help them become more
knowledge able students.
Describe the instructional activities that will occur PRIOR to the SRT activity and how you will introduce
the SRT activity.
Before this we will have lesson in how to add and subtract bigger numbers in our head.
Introduction: "Okay students remember the other day when we learned how to add and subtract numbers
in our heads? Now we are going to play a little game to check our understanding. Please pull out your
devise and go to Socrative."
Describe the purpose of the SRT activity (check all that apply):
☒ Assess prior knowledge ☐ Anticipatory set (Create interest in a topic) ☐ To illuminate common
misconceptions ☐ Formative assessment of content knowledge (for purpose of differentiation and
mastery for ALL students) ☐ Summative assessment of content knowledge ☐ Test preparation
☐ Survey/Poll ☐ Discussion starter ☒ “Homework” collection ☐ Other (please explain):

Briefly describe what will happen DURING the SRT activity:

The teacher will introduce the SRT activity. Then go around and make sure that everyone is ready to start the
activity. Once everyone is ready teacher will start the video. After that the teacher will go over the results of
the SRT activity and address any confusion.
The student will participate in the SRT activity and answer the questions to the pest of their abilities. They will

☒ Multiple choice ☐ Multiple select ☒ True/False ☐ Yes/No
☒ Short open-ended response or fill-in the blank ☐ Longer open-ended response

Right/Wrong answers: Will there be right/wrong answers to these questions?

☐ Yes ☐ No
☒ Mixed (Some will have correct answers, other will not.)
Immediate corrective feedback: Will you pre-select correct answers to some of all of the questions and
display correct response to the class after the SRT activity?
☒ Yes
☐ No
Why or why not?
The students will know immediately if they are right or wrong. The whole point is to check the students
understanding and correct any mistakes they are making.
Describe what will happen AFTER the SRT activity?
After the SRT activity we will go over any answers that were incorrect. That way I can make sure they
understand it and I will know if we need another lesson on it
How will the data be used?
The data will be used to see what my students understand and what they need more help with. It would be a
review for a quiz later in the unit.
Describe your personal learning goal for this activity.
I want to find out if everyone understands how to use mental strategies to find the differences and sums of
the math problems.
Reflective Practice: This could be a really good way to assess my students understanding of what they know
and what I as a teacher need to reteach. It would also be a good take home quiz to let them review it outside
of class.
