Dear Imam

It's been so long I haven't seen your face again. How are you? I hope see your face again,
since I saw you last year. I am in holiday right now. It's great.
I spent my school holiday to go camping in Ciremai Mountain. You know, this was our

collected and gathered the trash and brought them to the camping land. In the camping land, we
burnt the trash to create fire. When the fire was lit up, we people were like in a party. We danced,
laughed, sang, and laughed. That was a great moment.
I hope your holiday's been going well for you too. My holiday that day would complete
if you were there with me and Sanusi. Would you like to meet up some time in the next holiday?

The following text is for questions 24 to 27.

The dolphin is the wood duck of pelagic fishes, so spectacularly colorful that it seems
impossible it could have evolved by accident. The back and head are iridescent, glowing neon
blue and chartreuse green. The sides and belly are gold, sprinkled with bright blue spots. And,
like some other pelagic, the fish has the ability to “light up” with shimmering waves of color
across its body, almost as if its skin were embedded with moving lights.
In fact, biologists say the fish’s color is the result not only of pigment, but of
microscopic structures in the skin, which the fish can manipulate to change its color. The color
changes could have evolved for spawning selection, or perhaps as a camouflage when
approached by predators, as with many bottom creatures. In any case, the spectacular color in life
leaves no doubt when a dolphin dies; the skin almost instantly turns an ugly, blotchy gray-silver
or dull yellow.
Dolphins are found in the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian oceans, anywhere that the water
remains at 70 degrees or warmer throughout the winter. In U.S. waters they migrate seasonally,
following bait northward along the Atlantic coast to Virginia and beyond in spring, back toward
the Keys in winter, but good numbers remain in Florida waters throughout the summer as well.
The dolphin is unique among pelagic fishes in that the mature males have a distinctly
different shape than the females; the forehead of an adult “bull” is high and blunt, while the
“cow” has a more typical, streamlined forehead. (The males look just like the females until they
approach adulthood.) There are no reports of the male using this head as a battering ram in
mating battles, but it’s pretty clearly a secondary sexual characteristic.
Dolphin reportedly can reach speeds up to 50 mph, and sometimes run down flying fish
in the air, though more commonly they race along just under the surface, watching a flyer and
eating it the second it touches down. They also eat lots of squid, small bonito and other pelagic
bait.

Ultraviolet light means the invisible part of the spectrum beyond violet. This light has
always been regarded as very useful because it is uses to cure certain skin diseases, kill bacteria,
detect counterfeit money, form vitamins, etc.
Along with the increasingly extensive use of computers in financial activities, ultraviolet
light has been widely applied by banks to identify the signatures of their customers in passbook.
When a customer opens a new account with a bank, the bank teller always asks him to sign on a
card placed in the signature column of a passbook. When the card is removed, the trace of his
signature will be left. This can be used to compare with the signature on the customer’s
withdrawal slip under ultraviolet light.
Ultraviolet light certainly has many practical applications, but it may also be harmful to
human beings on some occasions. To everyone’s knowledge, the direct impact of the light on the
eyes for an excessive length of time may blind a person.
Even though it can cure certain skin diseases, it is also very harmful to the skin. A study
just completed in the United States says that the light may cause skin cancer. The ultraviolet rays
of the sun have been ranked as the third most dangerous cancer-causing agent after alcohol and
tobacco.
It is high time to warn sun-worshipper in the guest for a bronzed look to be careful of
excessive and uncontrolled exposure to hen sun.

On May 16, 2010, people in most regions in the world have seen a very rare natural
phenomenon. It was Venus eclipse. It was a very rare amazing natural event. It was reported that
the Venus eclipse will be seen again in the future in 2050. Do you know how this rare Venus
eclipse happens?
Well, actually Venus eclipse is like Sun eclipse. Venus eclipses occurs when the position
of the earth, moon and Venus is parallel. Venus planet will slowly disappear for a moment
because it is covered the surface of the Moon. Venus planet seems to move to the back side of the
Moon.
The moon and planets are sharing a similar apparent path in the sky. That is why, it is not
unusual for the moon to appear to pass close to Venus. In fact, the moon appears somewhere near
it about once a month. However, most people don’t see these events because they are visible in
the evening sky only half the time, and then only for a short period after sunset. The apparent
closeness varies from month to month as well.

40. What is the main idea of the text?

A. How Venus eclipse happens.
B. Planet Venus.

To improve comfort and cleanliness at the school, there should be an increasing number
of dust bins.
When we look at classroom, school corridors, and schoolyard, there are papers, mineral
water cups, straws, and napkins everywhere. The condition of unseemliness really hinders
learning and teaching environment. They can be filled out with water coming from the rain. This
can be a good place for mosquito to spread out.

Bahasa Inggris IPA/IPS/IPS A-04 Hak Cipta Dinas Pendidikan Propinsi Bali

14
Anyway I notice that most of the students have responsibilities for their school
environment. They put their litter on the proper place but some of them are not diligent enough
to find the dust bins. The numbers of the dust bins in the school are not enough. More dust bins
should be put beside each step, outside the classrooms and some along of the corridors. Probably
one dust bin should be in every ten meters. So when students want to throw away their litters,
they can find the dust bins easily.
When school is equipped with sufficient dust bins, students do not have problem of
discomfort anymore. So provide more dust bins and school will be very clean and become a very
nice place to study.

42. What is main idea of the paragraph?

A. More dust bins mean cleaner.
B. Students are careless on their litter.
C. Schools are a place to litter by some students.
D. Garbage is a nice place for mosquitoes to spread out.

The following text is for questions 44 to 45.

School uniforms are dress codes that are determined by the teaching institutions and
students have to follow the designed code obediently every day. Many people believe that school
uniforms should be applied but the others don't.
Uniforms have various advantages for both the family and the child. A united school
apparel can relief a financial stress of the backs of many families. As kids tend to compete and
imitate each other, the race of following new trends in fashion or, providing different attire for
every school day is considered a financial burden, not every family can afford it.
Additionally, a uniform creates a sense of equality between all pupils. Young kids tend to
judge others according to their look and what they wear. Uniting their school attire will draw
their attention to other criteria and, the only advantage of one student over another would be
personality, academic achievement or being good at sports.
On the other hand, as repetition can lead to boredom, children can get frustrated of
wearing same thing to school every day. Also, prevent their first steps of individuality by taking
away their right to choose what to wear on their own free well.
In conclusion, I believe uniform isn’t meant to suppress the creativity or freedom of
children. It helps redirecting kids’ creativity towards more important things than outer look, and
waive financial burden of their families.

‘Future World’, the latest movie by Global Studio, stars Rick Wycket and Amelia
Lightheart. This high-budget, futuristic fantasy broke box office records in the first week. The
story is based on the idea of the world being plunged into an ice age by a nuclear war. The few
remaining face life in a harsh environmental without technology.
The producer obviously spent much of their budget on stunning visual effects. The
techno-wizard used the latest digital techniques to create impressive setting that is completely
believable.
Less believable is the wicked performance of Wycket, who was reputedly paid ( or over –
paid) three million for his role. For a fantasy, his acting is not fantastic, in contrast to Lightheart,
a fresh talent who will undoubtedly become a star.
The screenwriter fails to provide a credible story-line. The plot has more holes than a
Swiss cheese and leaves too many questions unanswered. This is the real downfall of this
expensive project.
Overall, this is a very average movie. The only benefit of seeing it on the big screen is the
visual effects. Save your money and see it at home for half the price when it searches the small
screen.
