Cultural Biography of Elizabeth M.

Moore

Names

My birth name is Elizabeth M. Church. My first name is after my mothers favorite aunt

and simply because she likes the name Elizabeth. My friends and family members call my Lizzy.

When I became married I took my husbands last name Moore.

Religion

My religion is Latter-Day Saints (LDS) or better known as Mormon. My mother

converted through an LDS missionary when she was a teenager in Costa Rica. My father was

born and raised in the LDS religion. My parents married in the Las Vegas LDS temple. My

parents raised me in the LDS Church. I married my husband in the St. George LDS temple.

Ancestry/Culture

My father’s culture and descendance is from Switzerland. My father has a long history of

ancestors traveling to the United States on both sides of his family and they have been settled in

the United States for more than 5 generations. My mother is from Costa Rica. My mother moved

to the United States to Las Vegas, when she was teenager. Both of my mother's parents were
born in Costa Rica. My mother was actually born in New York, her parents had a job that had

them traveling around the world. After my mother was born in New York, they left shortly to

Mexico, but eventually settled back to Costa Rica for most of her childhood. My culture is a mix

of Costa Rican and Swiss traditions. I have favorite Costa Rican dishes that I have learn to make

through my grandmother. My father’s mother’s maiden name was Tobler. Although we are not

related to the creator of Toblerones, they shared the same last name and origin in Switzerland.

We have made a fun tradition out of eating the delish chocolate for special occasions or to give

as gifts.

Family Structure

My family structure was a Co-custody family. My parents divorced when I was young;

because of this I would go back and forth visiting one of my parents. My current family structure

is a nuclear family because I am married to my husband and we have a daughter together.

Socio-Economic Status

My economic status when I was younger was lower class because my parents divorced

when I was at a young age. Due to my dad not keeping his job, and my mother being a single

mom . My current economic status is still lower class.

Geographic Region
I was born in small city in Nevada, my parents moved to Las Vegas shortly after my

birth. Since then I have grown up all over the city of Las Vegas. Since my parents divorced when

I was so young, my parents lived in different areas of the city. I am currently living in Las Vegas,

and hopeful in the future to move to a different state.
