Nukleolus dan NOR

The nucleolus or nucleus is a small body, one or more of which are present in the cell nucleus
of eukaryotic cells. It consists mainly of RNA and protein and is not surrounded by a membrane.
Nucleoli contain a specific part of the genome, they participate in the production of the 40S and
60S units of the ribosome. Frequently, the nucleus is centrally located, but sometimes also the
nuclear envelope. It is always localized in the vicinity of a so-called nucleolus-organizing region
of a particular chromosome. These are secondary constrictions on acrocentric chromosomes.
On the NOR are the genes of the 28S, 18S and 5.8S rRNA, the so-called rDNA, which are
components of the ribosomes. One can therefore regard nucleoli as the ribosome factories of
the cell.
