LEARNING RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT PROPOSAL

I. IDENTIFYING INFORMATION

a. LR Title: Construction of Strategic Intervention Material in Science

b. Proponent: ANGIE E. DULNUAN

c. Beneficiaries: Grade 9

d. Competency: Explain the pattern of non-Mendelian inheritance (sex-linked)

e. Location: Rufino I. Chungalao Science High School

f. Total Cost: Php 120.00.00 per SIM

II. BACKGROUND AND RATIONALE

Quality learning is not measured by the quantity of lessons taught but by the quality

of learners developed. Quality learning then depends on the ability of the teacher to use

different teaching methodologies and utilize varied instructional materials to ensure that

learning takes place and to maximize the mastery of the competencies as well as to develop

science literacy among learners. However, the 30-item summative test about Non-Mendelian

Inheritance administered to 38 Grade 9 students revealed that 21% (8) failed to pass the

summative test. This was further intensified by the test item analysis which shows that the

21% of the Grade 9 students have attained an average of 60.4% in the test items on sex-linked

inheritance. This could only mean that these 21% has low mastery on explaining the pattern of

sex-linked inheritance.

This prompted the subject teacher to develop a strategic intervention material to

ensure that this 21% of the students will be able to raise their performance level from low

mastery to near mastery.

III. OBJECTIVES

1. To develop a strategic intervention material in Science 9 about sex-linked inheritance

2. To raise the performance level of 21% academically challenged Grade 9 students.

IV. PROJECT DESCRIPTIONS

The project was conceived as part of the remediation on 21% (8) of the Grade 9 student,

who obtained low mastery on the competency: explaining the pattern of sex-linked inheritance. It

aims to develop a strategic intervention material about sex-linked inheritance and to raise the

performance level of the academically challenged grade 9 students.

The purpose of the strategic intervention material is to provide simple but meaningful

activities that could enable learners to cope if not to master a given competency. It is divided into

5 parts which includes the guide card, activity card, assessment card, enrichment card, and

reference card. The content of each part is carefully thought by the teacher to suit the skills

needed among the Grade 9 students. The SIM is to be submitted for the evaluation to the

different committees before its use in the classroom.

VI. IMPACT

The SIM consists of varied activities that will help the students familiarized their concepts

and knowledge on Non-Mendelian Inheritance specifically on sex-linked traits. Students can

acquire skills, knowledge and information that will enrich and enhance their performance in

science.
