ARMAC System

 Automatic (ARMAC) is a computerized control

system for monitoring and control of dam gates
to maintain The Reservoir Level at the required
level.

 The system continuously monitors Reservoir

water level. It envisages the increase or
decrease in level by taking into consideration
the geographical contours of the reservoir- area
volume curves –other discharges from the
Reservoir.

 Based on The real time data thus evaluated the

required opening of spillway gates for
maintaining the level is calculated. Rising and
Sinking Reservoir water levels are continuously
measured by water level sensors. The software
allows the exact monitoring and the adjustment
of the water out flows to maintain the required
water level. By balancing the outflows, the
optimum water level is maintained. The system
Display the visual readout of the various
parameters of Water Level , Gate positions, etc.
as well as logs the above data.

 The gate operation in done sequence (as

required by the user) depending on -> (1)the
water level in the Reservoir; (2) rate of rise in
Water Level in Reservoir as well as the (3)
required level set by the operator ,for the
Reservoir. The gates would be operated
proportionally to allow water to discharge as
and when required so that the Water level will
be always near to the set required level.

Detailed Control Philosophy

The signal proportional to Water Level

which is measured through the Level
Measuring device is converted into
electrical signal which is continuously
monitored by the Control System. The
system is so arranged in such a manner
that it calculates the rate of change of
volume in unit time and estimates the
time to fill for the required set level
based on the integration of classical
proportional-derivative control
algorithms fed into the system.

The system measures the rate of inflow

water in Dam Reservoir using complex
PID algorithms based on the integration
of classical proportional-derivative
control for real-time operation of
spillway gates of a reservoir and
maintains the optimum water level in
dam reservoir by opening and closing
the gates automatically.
