ENGL IICP Career Research Project


Career exploration is integral to an individual’s development; in preschool, you learned about
different professions when professionals visited your class. As a young teen, you have hopefully
participated in a career fair, or shadowed/ observed professionals in their field.

Now in this project you will research the academic preparation to enter a career and you will
introduce that career, its daily responsibilities, its highlights and challenges to our class in an
oral presentation.

REQUIREMENTS:

 FOCUS ON ONE SPECIFIC CAREER


 3-4 PAGES + WORKS CITED PAGE (MLA FORMAT)
 AT LEAST 3 SOURCES (ONE MUST BE FROM AN ACTUAL PRINTED BOOK OR FROM OUR SCHOOL
DATABASE)
 3 MINUTE PRESENTATION

 Paper: THURSDAY, MAY 17


 Presentation: TUESDAY, MAY 29

PART 1- CHOOSING YOUR CAREER

1. Pick a specific career to research. (Choose something that you’re interested in!)
2. Can’t think of a career? Go to this website and complete the survey to see what types of career
may best suit your personality. http://www.educationplanner.org/students/career-
planning/find-careers/career-clusters.shtml

PART 2- RESEARCH YOUR CAREER

1. Find at least 3 sources about your career.


2. Find at least one printed source or a source from our school database.
3. All other sources must be from credible sources. (.org/.gov NOT Wikipedia)

PART 3- YOUR PAPER

1. Collect your research and compose a 3-4 page paper about your career.
2. Create a Works Cited page
3. Remember everything you learned about proper citations. (You must cite what you paraphrase
in addition to direct quotes!)
4. DUE: FRIDAY, MAY 25

PART 4- YOUR PRESENTATION

1. You will present your research to the class during Finals Week. You will talk about the highlights
of the career and whether or not you believe you fit with the career.
2. Your presentation should be about 3minutes long.
3. You will not be allowed to use notecards, a script, or presentation slides.
4. DUE: TUESDAY, MAY 29
