PRESENTATION
• Acquisition theories to teaching English to children.
• Relation between the theoretical aspects of the
teaching and learning process and the pedagogical
practice.
 GOALS

• To contribute with theoretical and methodological knowledge of

pedagogical practices in the training of English teachers who teach or wish
to teach English for children from 0 to 12 years in the initial series of basic
education in public or private contexts.

• To reflect upon English language teaching and learning theories and

methods for children and (re)think and (re)signify our practice.

• Holding back the years, thinking about your experience and comparing it to
the opportunity of the age of compulsory English education that has been
lowered in many countries, can we assure that young learners enjoy their
language classes? Why? Are their classes different from yours? In what
ways?
• Why has the age of English education been lowered?
Look at the comic strips to come and think about the changes in our
educational system. Compare them to the song “Another brick in the wall”
by Pink Floyd and share your comments in the Forum (Teaching and
learning English in Brazil: the educational system now and then).
