"Green-Roof Market to Grow Owing to Rising Usage in Commercial, Residential and Industrial

Buildings Applications Till 2022 | Million Insights." M2presswire. N.p., 21 Feb. 2018.

Web. 30 Mar. 2018.

In this source I learned that the markets of green roofs are suspected to rise in

North America. This source also added to my growing benefits list. The article stated that

people are interested in green roofs and the application of this idea. People are learning

more about this concept. This helps my inquiry because I want to prove that this is a hip

idea that has potential to be a viable and strong solution.

The source is a very recent news article. There is no author listed, however, the

publishing company is a representative of many news companies. The publisher strives to

provide up-to-date and accurate information.

Peng, Lilliana. "Green-Roof Effects on Neighborhood Microclimate and Human Thermal

Sensation." Energies 6.2 (2013): n. pag. EBSCOhost. Web. 8 Apr. 2018.

In this source, an experiment was conducted in Hong Kong exploring the concept

of green roofs. By placing green roofs in a community, the benefits were explored. This

source outlines benefits of green roofs, specifically between the two types of green roofs.

This helps my inquiry by further defining the differences between the two types and the

benefits of each type.

Energies is a scientific journal dedicated to engineering, technology

development, and research. They encourage scientists to post their findings and papers,

such as this one by Lillian Peng. The journal works with MDPI to perform a rigorous

peer-review. This peer-review is rigorously performed with a strict ethical policy and a

zero tolerance for plagiarism and data falsification.

Rayner, John. "Green Roofs For Sustainable Cities." N.p., Aug. 2015. Web. 30 Mar. 2018.

In this source I learned about various types of green roofs as well as

environmental impacts. This allows me to support how green roofs should be

implemented in every part of the world. Not only that, but I can add interesting facts

about how Germany has already implemented them and 10% of their roofs are green.

This source proves that this is not a new concept and the benefits are in effect in other

parts of the world.

The author is John Rayner, an Urban Horticulture lecturer at the University of

Melbourne. Since this topic is a form of urban horticulture, the senior lecturer of Urban

Horticulture has credibility to speak on this topic. This source also provides the sources

used to gather their information.

"Sowing Success in Green Roof Retrofits." Buildings. N.p., Apr. 2013. Web. 30 Mar. 2018.

This resource showed me the steps that go into building a green roof. It brought

up statistics of price and weight, as well as benefits of extended roof life. This will impact

my inquiry project by contributing the engineering level of the green roof concept. This

article also adds information to back up the fact green roofs lower A/C costs.

This article is from Buildings magazine. A magazine company that offers the

latest news and research about building concepts. They are team of professionals in

multidisciplinary fields that work together in the development, construction,

modernization, and management of buildings. In the article there are quotations from

people who work for companies that build green roofs and other researchers.

Zhou, Long. "Ecological and Economic Impacts of Green Roofs and Permeable Pavements at the

City Level: The Case of Corvallis, Oregon." Taylor and Francis Online. N.p., 18 May

2017. Web. 19 Mar. 2018.

From this article I learned that urbanization makes a large impact on the

environment. The global urbanization rate is larger than 50% and 85% of a developed

nation is in its respective cities. Impermeable surfaces in these cites impact the water

system by increasing the amount of storm-water runoff and creating increased flooding.

This flooding contains more surface pollutants. This is related to my inquiry project by

creating a basis of current understanding. This article shows gives me facts of how things

are now, leading to an opportunity for me to explain how green roofs will make

ecosystems better.

This article is from a peer-reviewed group who states they only post articles from

professionals at the top of their fields, as well as, from scholars, world-class authors, and

leading scientists. The article was published less than a year ago, May 2017, leading to an

assumption of recent data. The author, Long Zhou, is currently an assistant professor at

the City University of Macau in the Urban Planning and Design Program. Zhou also has a

Ph.D. in Planning, Design and Construction, a master's degree in Landscape Architecture,

and 2 bachelor’s degrees in Landscape Architecture and Construction Cost.
