Purpose This manual provides procedures and guidelines that support the
daily operation of traffic control about ZXSS10 SS1b SoftSwitch
Control Equipment.
Intended This manual is intended for engineers and technicians who per-
Audience form operation activities about traffic control on the ZXSS10 SS1b
SoftSwitch Control Equipment.
Prerequisite Skill To use this manual effectively, users should have a general under-
and Knowledge standing of SS technology. Familiarity with the following is helpful:
 ZXSS10 SS1b SoftSwitch Control Equipment
 Basic concepts about traffic control

Basic Concepts
In ZXSS10 SS1b, congestion control is achieved by policies. When
congestion happens, it could be eased by predefined polices, which
are made up of a series of action whose purpose are to restore
congested equipment to normal. Congestion status of congestion
type is measured by congestion level. Each level has a threshold
value, and value ranges from one to six.
Concepts Congestion Type: All congestion types are listed in the di-
alogue box of Congestion Type when entering into the Add
Congestion Control And Policy Management interface.
Number of Congestion: Congestion status is divided into
several levels which have corresponding thresholds, and level
numbers range from 1 to 6.
Threshold 1Threshold 6: Configure threshold value accord-
ing to number of congestion level .For example, In congestion
control of percentage kind, the maximum threshold value is
100, and the minimum is 1.
Special Threshold: Not every object is controlled by con-
gestion control types. For example, some trunk should be set
specifically to be in effect in congestion control by trunk reser-
vation percentage (and numbers), and RTP free percentage
(and numbers).
Policy Index: A policy is adopted if a congestion control type
happens. Corresponding action is adopted if permitted in pol-
icy. Policy Index is configured in Policy Configuration inter-
face.
Relation between
Congestion Control Types
and Management Policies
Management policy to different congestion types are listed as fol-
lows:
1. To Gateway Congestion, the management policy includes:
i. Traffic Control;

Special Configuration
explanation
Disaster Recovery Configuration
1. For 1:0 disaster recovery networking, traffic control policy at-
tribute and its action must be configured in “1” side, then dis-
aster recovery in “0” side. Activation and control are performed
in “0” side.
2. For 1:1 disaster recovery networking, traffic control policy at-
tribute and its action must be configured in its original side.
After disaster recovery is configured in the opposite side, acti-
vation and control are performed in disaster recovery side.

Context This topic describes the procedure to configure thresholds to con-
trol CPU congestion.
For one congestion, the thresholds for estimating congestion class
should be the same value, however, for some equipments, it is
expected that their own congestion thresholds are different from
others. For example, for gateway, if its threshold reaches 70, gate-
way is in congestion status. But for certain gateway, because of
its characteristics, it is required when threshold reaches 50, the
gateway is in congestion status and needs corresponding control
to handle. Under this condition, configuring special thresholds can
solve this problem.
