MY PERSONAL PRESENTATION
An excerpt from Betty Warner’s Balancing A Method of Building Self Esteem

So, this whole course is about you. I understand that you are a gift to the
world. I want you to understand it, appreciate it, and expect others to
understand and respect the fact that it is so.

YOU HAVE DEFINITE PURPOSE.

YOU HAVE UNLIMITED PASSION.
YOU HAVE VALUABLE TALENT.

No one can do what you were created to do. Even if they perform what is perceived
as the same task, it cannot be the same as yours because your effort and
creativity produced it. That is that thing that takes you to a place where time
and space do not matter. Energy for it seems never to be depleted. It is where
your thoughts and emotions get into alignment and the world makes complete sense.
This is your personal passion. All those things that you ordinarily do just a
little better with just a little more style than others is your talent. The best
thing about it is that it is so transferable, so marketable. Only your eye can be
sure that each ruffle is even. Only your eye can see whether the corner of the
bed sheet is military tight. You
can tell us not to buy after recognizing the devilish twitch in the salesman’s
eye. Your talent is for detail; just think of the great opportunities to transfer
this talent over and over to many situations that will have value to you and other

Please Present

Your presentation is you. Your mood, speech, attire, attitude, intellect, spirit,
and body posture are all you. These are the things that others see and feel when
they encounter you. When you grace others with your presence you give them a
panoramic view of you. This may or not necessarily be the projection you are
aiming to show. They way you are perceived becomes the central theme for the way
others treat you. You would be hard pressed however to get others to own up to
that. You probably won't claim this to be true as to how you respond to others
either. How do you see yourself? Let us engage.
Exercise #1
Role-Play
“My Image Character”
Think of someone that you know fairly well. Think about the way they behave or
react in certain situations. Create or re-create an event or circumstance that
will give the group an image of them as you see them. Don’t tell what you think of
the person. Just act out the behavior or response. At the end ask them to write
or discuss their impression. It will be interesting to see if they see it like you
do. It may be a little tough, but you can do it.

When asked to describe ourselves some of us look to the negatives hoping that
others don’t really see them. We sometimes try to justify them and feel
comfortable enough with them that we need not go through any arduous process of
changing. For example, if we present full of fear, doubt, and judgments then
others will accept this presentation and respond to us the way that they have
learned to respond to these attributes. It is almost certain sometimes that what
is projected can ensure us of losing the true experience of others and vice-versa.

Sadly enough, we tend to compare ourselves to others too much. Comparing yourself
to others is like comparing air and water. They are both great and purposeful
wonders of the universe. How can we determine which is better or more necessary.
Who and what can be compared to you? You are wonderfully created. Take a few
moments each day to applaud your uniqueness. In the name of uniqueness, please
complete the following exercise. It is personal to you.

Exercise #2
Choose a color or texture that you think fits you. Choose one that is indicative
of your personality. Write as many descriptive words as possible.

Exercise #3
Think about the precise image that you would like to present to others. How close
is it to the image that you are now projecting?

In the final analysis the most important opinion of you is the one that you have.
The way you feel and view you will determine what you will and will not accept.
It will determine what you will give and what you will take. This perception will
determine how you evaluate and integrate the feedback received from others in the
world. You are responsible for setting your standards with all of the information
that has been imparted to you from your world. Rewards and consequences are for
you to carry.
Embrace the uniqueness that is you---all of it. Respect the uniqueness of others.

People don’t have to be perfect to be valued, and that is a beautiful lesson.”

Marilyn Green Fried`

It’s A Wrap
Celebrate you. Celebrate life. Find joy in the fact that we have all been blessed
with the capacity for love, acceptance, and transformation. Misplaced rejection
and judgment belongs to someone else, not you. It is a burden that you can choose
not to carry.

Exercise#4
Evaluation Style
These words will come from all who was involved in the sessions. Work of this
nature that you study and participate in should have more than just a usual
evaluation attached. A fleeting euphoric condition is not the intent here. The
material is designed to give tangible and long-lasting ways to accept and/or work
for change.
It is helpful for the teacher/trainer to take part in an active final examination
to assess impact and future planning of this or similar material. Evaluation or
rehash sessions are good ways to sometimes allow participants to vent.
Information can be gathered in a way that is comfortable or congruent with the
teacher/trainer’s style.
At the end of it one is striving for short and long term implications or some
intent towards transformation or acceptance. Freely talk about any issues that
may arise for the edification of all concerned. Be open for participants to
critique your presentation of this material. Know that out of the heart flow the
issues of life. Release is sometimes needed to soothe a contrite heart. The
participants become champions.

Some vitals are listed below for you to consider. Use a form format if that makes
it more pliable. Interact and get the feedback. You will be glad you did. The
best of all the words at the end is… We get it.

This evaluation process can be a reciprocal one. The discussion would be

invaluable. Try it.

This work is a heartfelt endeavor for me. It is my hope that it brings you
success in your work.
