BACKGROUND

Audience: parents of high school juniors/seniors
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
1. Parents will be able to explain the 4 different types of colleges and universities to
their students.
2. Parents will know at least 2 different post-secondary options for their students.
3. Parents will be able to help their students create a final college list.
MATERIALS NEEDED
1. Sign in sheet
2. Pre/Post tests
3. Career Technical Education handout
4. Military handout
5. Types of colleges/universities handout
6. Financial aid handout
7. PowerPoint presentation
PROCEDURE
1. Have parents sign in
2. Give pre-test
3. Go through PowerPoint presentation
4. Give post-test
5. Answer questions
EVALUATION
● Process Data
○ Parents of 11th and 12th grade students
○ Addressing post-secondary options and how to create a college list
○ Conducted by 4 school counselors lasting about 30 minutes
● Perception Data
○ Attitude
■ Parents believe it is important for their students to pursue higher
education after graduating high school.
■ Parents think that the CTE program can prepare students for
post-secondary options.
○ Skills
■ Parents can explain the requirements to enlist in the military to
their students.
■ Parents can show their students at least 2 websites where they can
apply to college.
○ Knowledge
■ Parents know the 4 different types of colleges/universities.
■ Parents know how to help their students explore post-secondary
options.

○ Pre/Post survey results
○ There will be a higher percentage of students who pursue post-secondary
options after graduation
