STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

Through this letter of motivation, I would like to state my deep interest and thereby apply for
M.Tech(Engg )program in your institute. I am a final semester BE- Mechanical Engineering
student at Sambhram Institute of Technology, Bangalore (under VTU). So, at this phase of
completion of my BE, I would love to pursue my further studies with post graduation from
IISc.

To write about myself and my interests in a nutshell, I am a student with a strong passion
towards Mechanics. Ever since my school days, I have been keenly interested in observing
the natural phenomena around me, and thereby relating them to the laws of physics and
analyzing the contribution of those aspects to humanity. I have always been keen to learn new
things, to get updated with emerging technology and to know the inner fact behind its making
& functioning. I wanted to make such things not only the matter of discussion & bizarre, but
an important part of my life indeed. Therefore, I enrolled into BE Mechanical Engineering
after completion of my high school education.

I strongly believe in utilizing and getting optimum benefits from the environment around me;
even while attending college, besides the regular syllabus of engineering & the regular
exams, I always tried my best to get academically benefited from my professors & the
innovative environment of my institute, in every possible ways. Even the present revolution
in developmental activities & scientific advancement of India has always motivated me, and
has been helpful for me to quench my thirst of practical acquisition & innovation. I have been
involved in many official and un-official visits to many industries, enterprises, development
sites & other organizations in and around Bangalore; and every such visit has helped me a lot
to uplift my level of knowledge & professional exposure.

During my studies, subjects like fluid mechanics, thermodynamics & energy have especially
been my major areas of interests. My current major university project is on “study of wear
behaviour of coated steels ’. Apart from that it have also done research on heading
“modification of 4 stroke petrol engine to run it by alternative fuel 'ethanol’’ The prime
objective of this project was to get the best modified design of petrol engine to control the
air-fuel ratio entering the cylinder as well as to get the optimum value for compression ratio
based on the octane number of working fuel. Besides, I have also been involved in some
small projects of robotics and RC-Aircraft as well.
Moreover, I have been involved in many social activities as well; thanks to my father who
has always been a strong role model in arena of social work; he has worked as a volunteer
social worker under Nepal Red Cross Society for more than a decade and has always
motivated me to contribute to social changes. In my school days, I have worked actively as a
Secretary and President of junior Red Cross society. I have worked as an active member of
'Himali Nepali Association'- a group of Nepalese students in Bangalore. I was also involved
in the rehabilitation program for earthquake victims under Nepal Red Cross Society in
April/May 2015 during Nepal Earthquake.

Further writing about my deeds, I won’t call myself a genius or an excellent fellow; rather I
would like to call myself as a consistently hardworking & improving apprentice.
I believe that the path to success is one and only through continuous hard work and passion. I
assure you that I will always keep my passion of Engineering with positive thought and try
my best to upgrade progressively upwards in every possible aspect. I am applying to your
institute after carefully reviewing the course curriculum. After going through the research
focus, contents and facilities available in your institute which match with interests and my
three priorities of M.Tech(Engg. Research) subjects starting from first would be Aerospace
Engineering, Material Engineering & Mechanical Engineering respectively. I believe that
being a student in your institute would not only empower my career development, but also
would give me the platform to utilize my potentials to the fullest. Furthermore, through the
PG program at your institute, I am confident enough that I would be able to contribute in the
field of Engineering as well as towards my nation and humanity as a whole, in whatsoever
possible way.
