Introduction
Information and knowledge are vital to the work of your organisation. Information
– for example, about planning activities and projects, implementing and evaluating
plans, managing people, managing resources and managing change – must be
collected, analysed and stored safely and efficiently. This information is important
for day-to-day operations. It can also be used to develop important knowledge
about volunteering and the context in which you are working, that you can use to
inform key decisions and communicate to others to help them with their work.
You should be able to collect and store information using a range of methods, for
example using information and knowledge systems (such as libraries or on-line
sources), monitoring information as it is exchanged between other people and
yourself (for e.g, through discussions, meetings, and correspondence), being part
of networks, carrying out research or commissioning others to carry out research
for you. In collecting information, you should be outward-looking, always alert to
what is happening in the broader sector outside your organisation.
This unit links with most other units for the management of volunteers and, in
particular, with unit F9 Facilitate meetings and unit F11 Report to external
agencies.
