PRINCIPLE OF HUMAN DIGNITY

- The gap between the rich and the poor in the country is so wide and evident. It is easy to poi
nt out the privileges that a rich or middle-class family can experience. It is unfortunate, howe
ver, that some people especially the poor or the empty-handed ones are deprived of their right
s. What is worse is that the rights, which all people should live with regardless of social status
, financial capacity, intellectual and physical capability, gender, age, race, and religion, are no
w being considered as a privilege.

A very common scenario: Patient A and Patient B are in the emergency room. Patient A is so
meone who is financially stable. Patient B, on the other hand, is jobless. More often than not,
patient A is prioritized and assisted better. Patient B waits on the line and sometimes isn't assi
sted or accommodated anymore due to lack of money to pay for the bills and fees.

PRINCIPLE OF COMMON GOOD AND SUBSIDIARY

- Each individual is dependent on another individual. We are all interconnected and each one
of us has a responsibility with one another. We all have a role to play to help the members of t
he community to help, promote, share, and attain common good.

Scenario: Our country has PhilHealth, SSS, and tax. They promote imposition of dues or pay
ments or contributions. This doesn't only help the contributor or the tax payer to gain benefits
in the long run, but it also increased the government revenue which can be used to fund projec
ts especially for the less fortunate citizens. It also helps in aiding their needs especially in hos
pitalization, free medicines and consultation, and immunization programs.

PRINCIPLE OF TOTALITY AND INTEGRITY:

-Different aspects make a person whole. His or her body is an integral part of his or her being
human, and it must be respected, protected, and care for. In this principle, it is important to gi
ve priority to the totality of the person's health condition and the aspects and factors that make
it up. It must be kept whole.

Although a human must be kept whole, there are certain circumstances that make it hard to be
possible. Accidents occur and unexpected things happen. As a health practitioner, it is our pri
mary role to make the patient's condition better and ease his or her pain or suffering and take
him or her away from further risks or danger.

Scenario: Filipinos love celebrations. One extravagant event that we all look forward to and p
repare for is New Year's celebration. However, it is also the time when hsopitals are on red al
ert since it is expected that many fireworks and firecracker victims, especially kids, would be
brought. It is not new to us that many have lost their fingers and even hands to these. Howeve
r, amputation needs to be done sometimes if the injury is very severe and it's the only way to
prevent further injury, poisoning, or death.
