What do you need to do to apply for college?

Narrow your application choices


● Applying to a few colleges that you like it’s better than applying to as many as you
can.
● Make sure you can find a college that’s right for you.
Research Admission Requirements
● Each college has various admission requirements.
● Make sure you know exactly what your college requires by visiting its
website, checking with its admission office, or going to the common
application.
● When submitting your application make sure to check everything before you
submit, or you can ask your school counselor to help you.
Develop a Timeline or Checklist

● Creating a timeline or checklist can ease the stress when starting the
college application process.
● Make sure you understand the requirements of what needs to be done.
Examples of Checklists

9th grade checklist:


● You can take challenging classes in core academic subjects.
● Get involved in school or community-based activities that interested you.
● Considering do some volunteering, working or participating in academic
enrichment programs, and summer camp.
● Start to make a list for your awards, honor, paid and volunteer work, and
some activities that you participate in. Update ie throughout high school.
10th grade checklist:
● Meet with your school counselor to discuss what colleges you
want to go and their requirements.
● Consider to take the practice SAT or ACT.
● You can plan to use your summer time wisely: work, volunteer, or take a
summer course.
● Reacher a major that might be interest you and set a goal for it.
11th grade checklist:
● Go to college fairs. Visit some college that you might to go.
● Take the PSAT.
● Find scholarships for the college which you might want to apply, prepare to
submit application soon.
12th grade checklist:
● Work hard all the way to graduation.
● Complete any last scholarship applications.
● Visit colleges that have invited you to enroll.
Consider Applying Early

● Apply early to your top colleges, by doing this you’ll speed up the entire
application process.
● You can skip a couple months of stress and uncertainty when you apply
early.
SAT Prep
1. Take practice tests.
2. Know the test structure.
3. Practice reading articles about unknown subject
4. Study vocab
5. Write as many practice essays as possible
6. Memorize rules and formulas
7. Understand how multiple choice works
8. Know when to guess/skip a question
9. Allow yourself to have plenty of study time
