Competition Information

The Raindance Film Festival is an indiependant media competition that gives

people all across the globe the opportunity to submit their own productions into a
set category specified by the organisation with the potential to win a monetary
prize, as well as gain exposure in the industry via their panel of experienced
judges from the media industry. Raindance operates in a variety of cities, these
include London, Berlin, Brussels, Budapest, New York to name a few. There is a
variety of production types that an contestant can submit their work into ranging
from short films; music videos; feature films; web series; VR and AR experiences.

An Outline of Your Idea

My video will open with my protagonist exploring an abandoned area before

performing along with the song’s chorus (accompanied by stylized editing and
colour grading techniques - such as overlaying text using After Effects to
incorporate it into the environment, and colour masks to alter the colours of
specific objects in the frame such as the environment or the protagonist). The
protagonist then proceeds to explore the forested area around them with
flashback style shots to a future scene of them performing in a dark studio with a
strobe effect. They then proceed to perform again in a new location to the 2nd
chorus with the aforementioned text techniques being used. The song then
comes to a climax when I will use a variety of match-cuts and other transitions to
show the protagonist performing across a variety of locations with different
costumes and again accompanied by the stylized editing of the previous sections
of the song - Text in the environment, colours and use of masking, match-cuts,
wipes and colour grading as well as some techniques in After Effects.
Rules And Regulations

To submit my production to the Raindance Film Festival’s “Music Video” catagory

I must use a service called Filmfreeway or Withoutabox - these are the only digital
methods they accept; if an applicant wants to submit a physical DVD it must
include a tracking number, film title, film category on top of having the runtime
clearly labelled on the DVD itself. The production must be no longer than 6
minutes, and must be submitted before the final deadline listed below.

Date Deadline Fee

27th April 2018 Early Deadline £25

18th May 2018 Standard Deadline £35

1st June 2018 Late Deadline £50

8th June 2018 WAB Extended Deadline £80

Shown above is the deadlines and costs of entering into those specific timeframes
for the festival’s Music Video category. Entrants who have submitted their entries
will be notified on the 31st August 2018 on if they have been successful.
Successful submission into the competition will receive a Filmmaker Festival Pack
which will include information on shipping the DCP to the festival and how to
make the most of participating in the festival. All the submissions for the festival
are paid by credit card and the submission fee is non-refundable.

The entrants submissions are reviewed by the panel, and judged on the nature of
the production as well as its quality of narrative and its overall production value.
The judges take into consideration the overall quality of the production on if the
applicant has submitted a “professional” piece or not.
Target Audience

The target audience for my production will be male and females predominantly in
the age bracket of around 10-18 and possibly 20-30. I want to aim my production
more towards the younger generation as it is shown due to popular
contemporary videos that they enjoy stylized music video productions, which is
what I am interested in and aiming to produce for my competition entry - as well
as the target demographic of my artist being those mentioned above. I will aim to
create a survey targeting my chosen audiences to find out what specifics they like
both about my concept as well as common industry practices that they like to see
in their productions that they consume - editing techniques, visuals, camera
movements and shots.
