Dear Parent or Guardian:

I am writing to tell you about an exciting project we are doing in our class.

As your child has probably told you, our class in 6Yellow has started doing a Project Based Learning,
or PBL. The students are working in pairs, and are expected to apply language and research skills as they
work to complete their projects. They are also expected to use skills learned in other disciplines such as
math, science, life skills, etc. in their inquiry. Your child also learns skills in PBL such as how to think
critically, solve problems, work in teams, and make presentations. These skills will help students
succeed in the future, both in school and in today’s work world.

Each team’s topic was decided on by the students themselves. They also chose the finished product
that they will present to the class. These finished products may be in video format, a website, a prototype,
or in another form entirely.

Our PBL activity will replace the final examination in English . It is therefore very important
that our students exert their very best effort on this project. I have attached the rubrics we will use
to guide the creation of the project’s final product and assess students’ work. Here is the timeline of
our PBL activity:

Week 16 FINAL ASSESSMENT – final work will be checked and graded based on the rubric given
May 28-June 01 by the teacher.
Correction and polishing of work for publication in our class magazine
Presentation of Final Product in class.

Week 17 Continue presentations.


June 04-08 Continue corrections and polishing of work for publication.
