Akurata Eliyak
A moment that we realize who we are
A point which we reflect what we should do
An effort taken to lighten up darken dreams
A memory that we please when recollect

Akurata Eliyak was a project organized

by UoM Leos, joining hands with the
Lions club of Dehiwala North, to lighten
up the life of the school children who try to
win their life with the name of education.
It was held on 27th of December at the
Batuwangala Central College, Neluwa
which was a school affected from the
flood.
In this project, we were able to fulfill the
need of a computer lab with necessary
equipment which was a shortage since
last few years in this school. We donated
about 5 lakh worthy school accessories
including photocopy machines and
instruments for the aesthetic unit. Not
only that but also the sound system
and the computer lab of the school
was repaired with the help of Leos and
prospects who joined with this event.
We hope that our effort was a huge
strength to the students of this school
and we were able to do our duty towards
the society once again through this

The voice of excellence
Mid Year Review
Mid-year review of Leo District 306A2 was
held on 17th of December and was graced
by Lion Vidyakeerthi Dissanayake. Leo
Kalindu Dissanayake chaired the meeting.
Leo Poorni Kumbukage did the welcome
address and Leo Tikuli Pitigala presented
the report of the secretary. It was followed by
the Treasurer’s report by District Treasurer
Leo Ivan Udakara. District President Leo
Kalindu Dissanayaka summarized the months gone by in his address. Chief Guest
District Governor Lion Widyakeerthi Dissanyake gave some inspirational ideas to the
gathering.
Then the Board members of the District Council and Club presidents presented their
reports and observations to the gathering. After the conclusion of the meeting, the award
ceremony ceremony was held to give away tokens of appreciations to recognize the
achievements of clubs in the district. Multiple District President Leo Lion Pramod Sean
Wimalatunga, Past District President Leo Thilini Manamperi, Past District President
Leo Chandima Vithanage, District Chairman for Leos - Lion Anura Goonathilake, Lady
Lion Ajitha Edirisinghe and PDCL Lion P.P. Vithanage also graced the function.Almost
all Leo clubs in the district participated to the event and Leo club of university of
Moratuwa earned an immense recognition there. The whole function went till late night
and everybody enjoyed an entertaining evening.
The following are the award categories and corresponding leo members who were
awarded for their outstanding performance.
Best report submitting club - Leo Devini Shashiprabha.
Best president - Leo Buddhi Isurajith.
Best line officers - Leo Yasiru Nilan (District editor).
Most supportive club - Leo club of university of Moratuwa

සීතල උඳුවප් මාසයේ මාපිය උණුහුමට
ගුලිවෙමින්, නත්තල් අසිරිය විඳ දරා ගන්නට
දහසක් බලාප�ොර�ොත්තු හදවතේ ඇති වුවත්,
එය අත් විඳින්නට තරම් වාසනාව න�ොලද්දාවූ
බ�ොහ�ෝ�මයක් දරුවන් අප අතරම සිටී. තවත්
එවැනි දරු කැලකට අස්වැසිල්ලක් වෙමින්,
උදාවූ නත්තල් අසිරිය ඔවුන් සමග
සෙනෙහසින් බෙදා ගැනීමට ම�ොරටුව
විශ්වවිද්‍යාලයේ ලිය�ෝ� සමාජයේ අපි තීරණය

කිහිපයක්ම වින�ෝ�දාස්වාදයෙන් යුතුව ගත කළෙමු. නත්තලේ සැබෑ අරුත ඔවුනට හරිහැටි

Fifty years back, a small black girl was born to a teenage African
mother at a dark nook in a dusty town in rural Mississippi in America.
Although Oprah was still a little girl she couldn’t help living in a real
world nightmare abundant with extreme torture and pain that one can
hardly withstand. She was molested by the one she called her father
and at a younger age 14, she became another teenage mother like
her own mother. But her physical inferiority didn’t let her to give a safe
birth to the child. He died at his birth. This was just the beginning of
her uneven life with endless ups and downs. But she had this great
eye to see silver lines in dark clouds and incredible guts to tolerate
any barricade coming forth. Oprah had an amazing talent to talk to
people. She talked, laughed, and made people laugh. She earned
an immense popularity over whole northern America. Her voice, her
ideology has been the voice of her nation ever since she started
motivating people inspired by her very own life story. Oprah tells “I am
a woman in process. I’m just trying like everybody else. I try to take
every conflict, every experience, and learn from it. Life is never dull”.
That’s her inspiration. She never believes in failures. In her prospective,
it is not a failure if you enjoyed the process. Oprah Winfrey now, is
considered as the richest self-made women living on earth at present

Shramadhana Campaign
Living in a clean and a tidy environment
helps to make the minds clear. In a deeper
understanding cleaning a temple means
the “Outer, Inner and Secret” cleaning.
Bearing this hope in our minds, we, the
UoM Leos organized a cleaning program at
Sri Pushparama Viharaya, Matara on 3rd
of December 2017. We cleaned the temple
premises on that day. Instead of usual
clutter and confusion, we, concluded the
work for the day, with the feeling of a clarity
in our own minds, as we felt attuned to the
neatness and beauty of the environment.

Do you know?
The Earth revolves around the Sun
with an angle of 23.5 degrees. Hence, we
have different four season which call as
Spring, Summer, Autumn and winter.
In the winter the day time is lesser and
night time is longer as sun light doesn’t
come on to the earth directly.
As we all know now we are in the winter which goes the earth temperature
even below zero Celsius. But it is only for northern hemisphere. These days
southern hemisphere is having average temperature about 40’C. But none
call January as summer. Reason behind that is as 88% world population is
living on the northern hemisphere while 12% of the world population live
on the southern hemisphere and key economical cities are in the northern
hemisphere.

Multi service project
Stories are created and they are been published. Some stories
forget easily but good stories always remain, no matter how old
they are. Such a story to remember is written on 30th of December
2017.
Leos and Lions are well known as the best in services. On the
above mentioned day too, a multi service project, included with a
blood donation program, a medical campaign and a book donation
program was done at Hindeliya Kanitu Vidyalaya, Walasgala, with
the leadership of mother club of ours, Dehiwala North Lions club
and with the contribution of Leo Lion Club of Centennial Leaders.
Many outstanding characters such as President of Lions club of
Dehiwala North Lion Sameera Hewage, Multiple District President
Pramod Wimalatunga, Immediate Past Lions Club President Lion
Vidula Hasaranga, Leo Club advisor Lion Meena Wellala were
participated in this project. UoM Leos also participated in this
project and gave their best to make it a success.

It is a great pleasure as an Editorial Panel member
of Most Outstanding University Leo club, to speak
to you through the official newsletter, ‘‘IT’S US”,
which is a source to express our true feelings of
serving humanity. UoM Leos are always willing
to grab the opportunities to stride up to the peak
of success and perform activities to upgrade
the social status of the people with needs,
while improving the leadership skills of the club Leo Shirmila Pabasara

During this month we conducted remarkable
projects like “Apitath Naththal”, “Akurata Eliyak”,
“Shramadhana Campaign” and our involvement was given to the ”Multi Service
Project”. Apart from them we received a monumental recognition at the “Mid
Year Review” held in December. Dedication and commitment of the members
and the prospects, guidance given by past Leos and Lions of the club were
the key reasons behind this success. We always try to keep the quality of our
projects and serve the people who deserve help.
We are looking forward to receive your feedbacks, comments and suggestions
for further improvements of the newsletter. Your encouragements are highly
appreciated since they will always be helpful to sharpen our creativity. We hope
you will always stay with us and witness the true meaning of serving humanity.
