Vesak
“Health is the greatest gift, contentment the greatest wealth, faithfulness the
best relationship.”
~Lord Buddha~

Vesak is a religious and cultural festival celebrated on the day of the full moon in
the month of May. It is celebrated by the Buddhists all around the world. It is the
day which Buddhists commemorate the important events that took place in the life
of Lord Buddha. Namely the birth of Siddhartha Gautama in Lumbini in Nepal
which took place under the arbor of Sat trees where queen Mahamaya gave birth to
him, the Siddharta Gautam’s supreme attainment as the Buddha, the Enlightened
One, the Lord Buddha’s Parinibbana over 2500 years ago at “Kusinara”.

There are many religious activities organized by the Buddhists during this period
such as Sil campaigns, Bodhi Pooja, Dansal, Vesak devotional songs (Bakthi Gee),
Pandols (Thoran) and lanterns. In every house decorations are done using lanterns,
buckets, bulbs etc. to commemorate this supreme day. The lighting of the lanterns
signifies an offering to the memory of the Buddha who delivered the message of

Never Regret!
If it’s good, it’s wonderful. If it’s bad it’s experience.

Regret is a form of poison that can paralyze your life. In other words, it is a
punishment to yourself. It can either slow you down or totally mess up with
your journey of life. Therefore, you must never regret about anything that has
ever happened in your life. Something already happened belongs to the past.
So, it cannot be changed, undone or forgotten. What can only be done is, take
whatever the regret as a life lesson learned, and move on as a much stronger
soul with the experience you got.
As humans, it is natural to do certain things in accordance to the situations
you face, at different moments in life. Those things might be the best thing
you had to do at that point of life. But, later, when you turn back and look at
the past, it may bring worries with what you have done, while forgetting the
moments you faced. It may bring you the feeling that you made a mistake.
That is what we call as regret. But this may not be a long term feeling. It may be
temporary as per the age level you live in. With the time, when you get mature
you may look at those experiences in a wide angle and sometimes laugh at the
moments you regret or either thank them for making you strong. So, worrying
would not be there anymore, it will make you realize that how inexperienced
you were at that point of life. So, take regretting as just a short term negative
feeling, and overcome it to achieve your life goals as a better experienced one,
polished with your mistakes.

Awurudu Waram
“The Erabadu flowers bloom,
Cuckoo sings cu-ckoo,
Firecrackers go boom,
Sinhala and Tamil New Year knock our doors..
Passing the message,
Shall we celebrate New Year,
With the people who missed their childhood?”
Awurudu waram is another amazing project organized by the Leo Club of
University of Moratuwa District 306A2 twinned with Leo Club of St. Michel’s
Institution of Leo District 308B2 to celebrate Sinhala and Tamil New Year with the
children who missed their parental love, affection and care in their childhood. It
was held on 22nd of April at Sarvodaya Suwasetha children’s home, Baddegama,
Sri Lanka and Precious Gift Orphanage Society, Perak simultaneously.

Leos who participated to this event in both countries did their maximum to
entertain the children and bring laughter to their faded faces. A meal filled with
awurudu sweets was prepared at the children’s home, Baddegama and they were
able to join with different awurudu games and events. Finally we successfully
conclude both of the projects while passing the true message of Sinhala and
Tamil New Year.

Editors Note
Each and every year god gives us rain without
hesitation. Though rain falls we are unable
of using whole a lot of water it gives. So that
water flows to sea without any use. If we collect
that water, we can use that for the betterment
of society. That is why former kings made
reservoirs to collect that precious rain drops for
the future. Likewise, Leoism is the reservoir
which is built to collect precious soles full of Leo Narmada Liyanagamge
humanity. UoM Leos are also a part of that (Editor)
great creation. So, it is always a pleasure to be gathered in this family.
In each month we do a tremendous part of duty to the society. As usual in
the month of April we did projects “Kuse Gindara”, “Awrudu Waram” and
actively involved in organizing the events “Leo Olympics” and “Sinha Leo
Labandi Aurudu”.
It is a pleasure to let you know about us through our newsletter “IT’S US”.
Hope you’ll appreciate us on what we do, and we would like to receive your
comments on new improvements to make the newsletter more advanced.
Even this is the final issue in the 14th edition of the Leostic year 2017/2018
we hope to continue the legacy of compiling in the future too. Our desire is
to add more value to “IT’S US” in the future and we invite you all to stay in
touch!
