Introduction

T
his journal functions as an end-point for a variety of
original writing. The impetus of Post Fidem was a
vision, amplified by decades-worth of engagement
with popular media, and focused by historical context. This
being the introductory issue, it is worth stating the basics.
Post Fidem is an original content outlet that operates across
multiple digital (and eventually print) platforms producing
audio, written and visual content to convey ideas that are
tangentially related to a few foundational notions.
Post Fidem, which translates to "after faith" is focused
on that which comes after faith, that being action that
manifests internal virtue in the physical world. We
identify spiritual cultivation as the source of physical
and mental improvement for oneself and those around
them. We represent traditional concepts, aesthetics, and
practices through modern multimedia channels and forms.
Contained in this issue are an assortment of writings that
were composed prior to, and during the establishment of
this outlet. As such, they reach for a conclusive answer
without touching it. Future issues will reflect the progress
made in this regard.

understanding of reality as mentally
constructed and commits to the actualization
of a self-constructed reality. As for ideal
forms which have never existed, one may
benefit from the growth gained in striving
for the acheivement of an unprecedented
state. Similar to idealism is edification, which
describes a process of transcendence and
empowerment. If an ideal is a destination,
edification is the vehicle used to get there.
Thinking in terms of edification and ideals
confers a sense of romanticism upon the
mundane notion of self-improvement. In
keeping with this line of thinking, actions
taken towards the acheivement of an ideal
matter less than the terms in which they are
described.

2. The lack of awareness, social feedback
systems, or incentives to reduce them.
Mental processes that result in physical
manifestations, such as binbo yusuri, are
subjected to social feedback systems because
they are visible to others. A person's incentive
to rectify such mental processes stems from
their desire to increase social acceptance or
reduce social stratification.
Increased awareness, or meditation upon the
present moment, allows one to measure their
engagement with external signals. When a
person fails to actively manage their response
to an incoming emission, portions of their
mind begin functioning in the interest of the
originating party of said emission. To question
the meaning of all aspects of one’s internal

requires patience and honesty. Questioning
the foundations of thoughts and feelings
can result in the surfacing of uncomfortable
truths, and ultimately cognitive dissonance.

ON SACRIFICE
Considering the hidden costs of success

E
very decision is born from sacrifice. To follow one path is to forego all others;
and a person will only ever know one version of who they could have been.
Mastery is achieved through the process of elimination. The value of one's
success may be measured by how much they lost to acheive it. If the energy produced
by a battery is divided into multiple receptacles the charge available to each is thereby
reduced. The product of the drain becomes more widespread and less directed. Each
person holds a limited amount of mental energy and chooses to allocate it towards
specific action areas. Assigning greater energy to one area fosters vulnerability in all
others. Each person is a battery, powering aspects of the surrounding world. There is
no neutral state.
A person who chooses to allocate the bulk of their energy to intellectual pursuits
risks hindering their instinctual nature, and vice-versa. For one to acheive degrees
of success in a single area they must pass through multiple phase-gates. At each gate
portions of the imagination and aspects of the identity are removed and left behind,
reducing ones burden and increasing their ability. Over time, direction of energy
towards a concentrated point may transform an opaque collage of potential futures
into a clear vision.

18
Each thing is an illusion to the extent that we attribute to it some subjective meaning. The things we most value
are special illusions. To accept something as real is to give it life, and with life comes the trait of impermanence.
The beauty of life is crystallized in the act of embrace.

To embrace something is to form an attachment to it, and with attachment comes vulnerability to loss. In this
way, the more deeply one embraces something, the greater their pain will be upon it’s perishing.
That which we accept as real holds value in both the joy and pain it brings. (PF, 2010)
