Daily Lesson Plan Format

Name: Hailey Spratte Lesson #8

Student Learning Objective(s) and Related Assessment(s):

Students will be able to learn about greed. This means that students look for greed within
the text, and whether or not it is positive or negative.
Students will be able to determine whether or not a narrator is reliable or not. This means
that students understand characteristics of narrators, and are able to draw on story aspects
to determine truthfulness.
Students will define greed, narrator, supernatural, reliability, etc. This means that students
fill out their INB vocab section with these words and their descriptions.

Standard(s): 7.1.2: Small and large group discussions rely on active listening and the
effective contributions of all participants.
7.2.1.a.ii: Determine a theme or central idea of a text and analyze its development over
the course of the text; provide an objective summary of the text.
7.2.1: Literary elements, characteristics, and ideas are interrelated and guide the
comprehension of literary and fictional texts.

Materials/Resources:
Students will need their INB, and their “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” text. The
students will also need a writing utensil.

Learning Activities:

Initiation: To begin today’s class, students will be asked to write in the INB.
They are to write about Ichabod. If they do not know much about Ichabod, they
are able to use their text to pull some things. They can write about questions they
have about him, or just general things that they are noticing. After the students
write for ten minutes, we will have a small discussion about Ichabod as a
character. (15 minutes)

Lesson Development:
Today, the students will read the text. We will do this reader theater style.
Students will volunteer to read to their classmates. I will stop the reading as
necessary if the text is challenging or if we have words that we need to define. (25
Minutes)

Closure: To end the day, the students will participate in a Socratic Seminar.
Students are encouraged to speak, but if they choose not to, the only way to earn
the days points is to write in their INB about the Socratic Seminar discussion, and
their thoughts on some of the topics. (20 minutes)
Individuals Needing Differentiated Instruction: Students are able to earn points for
writing in their INB if they choose not to talk in the Socratic Seminar. Advanced students
can earn extra points if they choose to speak in the Socratic Seminar and also write in
their INB.
