Granting Access Privileges in
Windows XP
This guide provides instructions for users of the Professional
version of Windows XP, which enhances system security by

GoldMine Server Considerations

The minimum requirements for your GoldMine server are
highly dependent on the specific load requirements. The
minimum recommended server requirements are a Pentium
200 with 128Mb RAM and a 10-Mbit network card running
Windows 98. However, these requirements would not suffice
for a 300-user installation. FrontRange Solutions Inc.
recommends that you work with an Authorized Solutions
Partner to plan your network requirements accordingly.

Windows NT 3.51 Network
GoldMine 5.7 uses 32-bit Windows 98/2000 features, such as
calling Windows 98’s API to access TAPI to dial telephone
numbers. However, Windows NT 3.51 does not provide
support for the entire Windows 98 API. Therefore,
GoldMine 5.7 will not run on a Windows NT 3.51
workstation. Although GoldMine 5.7 will not run on a
Windows NT 3.51 workstation, you can use Windows NT 3.51
as the file server for GoldMine files. You can run GoldMine 5.7
from that server on Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 98/2000
workstations.
You can also run GoldMine 5.7 on Windows NT 4.0—see
“Installing GoldMine on a Windows 98/2000/XP or
Windows NT 4.0 Network” on page 3-9.

information. You can easily set up the database(s) with

GoldMine’s Database Wizard.
Using GoldMine’s Database Wizard, you can either:
• Create a database for new data
• Rehost, or copy and convert, an existing database on
a different server
Creating a database: You can create a blank database
structure to store data in either standard dBASE tables or on
an MS SQL server (GoldMine Sales and Marketing only).
Once created, you can later copy data into the database.
Rehosting a database: You can host an existing GoldMine
contact database or other files, such as calendar records, on
a different server. This process does not affect the original
database, but instead, copies and converts a file from one
format type, such as dBASE, to another, such as MS SQL.
Rehosting a database enables an organization to support
multiple platforms. For example, contact records can be
stored in dBASE databases, while accounting files can be
stored in an MS SQL database.

BDE Errors
GoldMine uses the Borland Database Engine to access your
databases. For GoldMine to run properly, each workstation
must have access to the BDE. The BDE may reside locally on
the workstation, or across the network.
GoldMine supports only BDE version 5.00 or higher. Check
each BDE installation to ensure that a supported version is

Problems with the BDE can often involve access issues, such
