Frame Erection procedure

The following procedure should be considered for frame erection.

➢ At first all the plate needs to be fixed at the designed place for the erection of the
structure.

➢ The drawings should be carefully studied.

➢ It is compulsory for all the students to wear safety boots at the erection site before
starting the erection, which prevents legs from unwanted falling of the objects at site.

➢ All four columns should be erected carefully one by one. Safe distance for the erection
should be maintained. The portal frame weigh approx. 50kg, thus to ensure the
protection of the workers, safety measures should be adopted. Ladders can be used to
lift the frames and other structures to erect.

➢ Bracing should be done across the erected steel after the erection of columns, so that
the column will not sway. Frames and rafter have sharp ends, which can cause damage
to workers. Thus, gloves and other safety measures should be used.

➢ After that, rafter needs to be lifted. Since, it is very heavy; one rafter should be placed at
a time. Forklift or lifting equipment should be used to lift the rafter. Rafters do have
their significant weight as well, thus while carrying them their weight should be
considered.

➢ Inspection should be done to make sure that, rafters have been tight enough and bolt
and nuts are tightened. There might be some irregular places where bolts and nuts need
to be tightened. Thus, to avoid the potential hazard that might be caused due to this,
various range of screw drivers can be used to overcome the problem.

➢ Bracings needs to be done after the completing the work of rafter.

➢ Purlins work are done one by one after the completion of bracing. While working at the
erection site, there might be different kinds of accidents caused by the falling of the
tools, nuts and bolts, and screw drivers, leading to the hazards. Thus, safety helmet and
other necessary consideration are mandatory to be made.
➢ Once the erection of the frame is completed, it is better not to allow all the people to
enter the site at once. All the safety and necessary preparation should be ensured
before it is made available for other people to enter.
there might be leftovers from the works, thus they need to be cleaned out and made
the way clear for the visitors and workers too.
