QUESTION 1: [25 Marks Total]

The acceleration of a motorbike is as shown on the graph below in Figure 1. If the bike

starts from rest, determine:

a) The velocity of the motorbike after 7 seconds (m/s). [10 Marks]

b) The distance traveled by the motorbike in 7 seconds (m). [15 Marks]

QUESTION 2: [25 Marks]

The 2 kg collar is released from rest at point A, as shown below in Figure 2. A spring

having a stiffness of K = 350 N/m and an unstretched length of 1 m is connected between

the collar and point C as shown in Figure 2. If the shaft running through the collar is

smooth, determine the velocity of the collar when it reaches point B using the principle

of conservation of energy.

QUESTION 3: [25 Marks]

The 40 kg crate rests on a plane inclined  = 300 to the ground. The crate is subject to the

time varying force F shown below in Figure 3. If the coefficient of kinetic friction

between the crate and the inclined plane is  = 0.2 and the crate has an initial velocity of

2 m/s in the +X direction when t = 0, determine the velocity of the crate after 10 seconds.

Use the coordinate system shown in Figure 3 for your analysis.

QUESTION 4: [25 Marks]

A 3 kg collar is connected to a 4 kg disk by a 2.5 kg slender rod as shown below in Figure

4. The slender rod is 1.5 m long and the disk has a radius of 0.6 m. If the collar is moving

towards the ground at 3 m/s when  = 450 and the disk rolls without slipping, determine

the angular velocity of the slender rod at the instant  = 00.
