Strengths of the lesson:

Small group work with four students (Yellow group – Sara, Jenna, Alyaa, Tayla).
Students were working with paper, glue and sequin letters, requiring fine-motor skills to glue
the sequins individually onto the paper to spell sight words.
You moved well around the group, helping and guiding as required. The students seem
comfortable with you and were engaged throughout the activity. They were keen to show
you their work.
You pronounced words, pointing to your mouth to show how the words were formed, and
asked students to tell you the initial sound.
You were able to observe what students could do by themselves and what they needed
more help with, so you will be able to make some judgments about their level and progress
(assessment).
I like that you directed a student to the word wall for help, so that that could find the word
they needed, rather than just spelling it for them. This is great in terms of developing their
independent learning skills.
I have awarded an ‘A’ here for professionalism – although you were late, you contacted me
to let me know (weather/traffic), and came immediately into class and got involved (having
less than 24 hours notice of my visit!) – well done.
Areas for development:

Goal: Reading aloud/pronunciation - Practice reading aloud using familiar books during last
15 minutes of the day.
Communicating with MST – TP booklet already sent, and you have shared that you have 3
lessons observations. Phone messages for being late, etc. Today – discuss with MST to find a
time to meet about upcoming science unit. Meet MST at least twice a week for 10 minutes
to check in.

These are good goals, Shaikha. You have reflected well, and are aware of your own areas for
development.

A = Exceptional, B = Very Good, C = Satisfactory, D = Marginal and F = Unsatisfactory
