3GPP Frequency Bands

Supported Bands

The following table illustrates the LTE FDD bands defined by 3GPP. The 3GPP has defined all these frequencies, but all these bands are not available for LTE in each country.

Note: FDD spectrum requires pair bands, one of the uplink and one for the downlink, for simultaneous transmission on both links. TDD requires a single band as uplink and downlink are on the same frequency but time separated.

Overview

Installation Options

The 9926 BBU d2U can be installed in the following cabinets for an 9412 eNodeB Compact configuration:

9412 eNodeB Compact Indoor (cabinet also known as the “LTE Cube” or “Smart Cabinet”) (BBU factory installed)

9412 eNodeB Compact Outdoor cabinet (BBU factory installed)

9412 eNodeB Compact Outdoor Type II cabinet (BBU factory installed)

MBI5 AB cabinet housing a 9412 Compact Smart (BBU factory installed)

Standalone 19” or 23” Indoor Rack (BBU field installed)

9412 eNodeB Compact Indoor

The 9412 eNodeB Compact is an intergrated system. However, logically it is the same as a distributed eNodeB which has a separation of the digital and RF processing by a CPRI interface. This allows a consistency of implementation between the integrated and distributed cases, even though the physical packaging differs between the two products. The same 9926 BBU is used as is used in distributed products. However, the RF processing is accomplished in TRDUs (Transmit / Receive Duplex Units). The TRDUs are logically identical to the Remote Radio Heads (RRHs) used in distributed eNodeBs, but are physically different because they mount in a cabinet in a different environment (out of the weather) from that experienced typically by RRHs.

Note the following for the 9412 eNodeB Compact indoor cabinet:

Either solution (that is, single or dual cabinet) can be a floor mount or wall mount soultion.

As a new security feature, all LTE outdoor cabinets now come with Alcatel-Lucent lock hasp brackets (Part # 849147079). These lock hasp brackets allow the use of lock access shields that prevent tampering with the brackets. Lock access shield kits (849150909) are shipped loose with each cabinet. The access shields are field or factory installable (as long as the new lock hasp bracket is in place). These are to be installed to whatever door latches the customer will apply padlocks. A simple spring clip interfaces with the bracket to retain the shield (see the figure). When a padlock is placed through the hasp the hex key cannot be accessed and the access shield cannot be removed.

eNodeB Commissioning

eNodeB Commissioning

9412 eNodeB Compact Self Commissioning Improvements

It is now possible to achieve full Plug-n-Play (PnP), zero-touch commissioning of a newly installed eNodeB with IPsec enabled for the OAM interface and without having to pre-provision the eNodeB OAM IP address or Security Gateway information. With LR13.1.L Self Commissioning Improvements:

There is no need to pre-provision the OAM IP address to identify the eNodeB during initial OAM link establishment. A new capability allows the eNodeB to be identified by its serial number rather than by a fixed IP address. And rather than a fixed IP address, another capability allows the eNodeB to obtain a dynamic eNodeB IPsec tunnel inner IP address from the Security Gateway.

In addition, the operator can re-assign an eNodeB to a different managing EMS without service impact to the eNodeB and without requiring the eNodeB configuration to be pre-provisioned on the new Managing EMS.

For Metro MCO and MCI, the operator should use the eNodeB serial number to identify an eNodeB during the initial OAM link establishment. With Self Commissioning Improvements, it also supports obtaining a dynamic eNodeB IPSec tunnel inner IP address from the Security Gateway. For Metro eNodeB Plug-N-Play with IPSec for OAM traffic, the operator is able to configure the eNodeB serial number as the binding mechanism to identify eNodeB rather than configuring eNodeB IP address because the inner IP address can be changed after reset which is dynamically assigned by Security Gateway.

The operator is able to configure the eNodeB/OAM binding mechanism to be used on a eNodeB basis.

Related Feature: Automatic Security Gateway Discovery.

Specifications

eNodeB Software capacities (FDD)

Specifications

The eNodeB active user capacities depend on whether the eNodeB is equipped with an eCCM or eCCM2 (where eCCM2 can be an eCCM2 or eCCM2-HR). Note that the actual active user capacity that can be admitted into the cell depends on many other factors such as traffic mix, Quality of Service (QoS) requirements of the traffic, etc. The eNodeB could block the user before the active user capacity is reached.

If the capacity of all cells together is greater than the eNodeB capacity, the eNodeB will dynamically distribute the capacity among all cells.

Note: Capacities are from a eCCM/bCEM or eCCM2/bCEM perspective and not tied with any RF unit capacity.

eNodeB equipped with eCCM2 and bCEM
