Dear Selection Committee,

My name is Matthew Ybarra and I currently teach Special Education and coach track at El Capitan High
School. Ben Avila has asked me to write a letter of recommendation on his behalf and I am more than happy to
comply. I have had the pleasure of coaching Ben for four years and can speak regarding his academics and work
ethic.
Ben is currently a senior here at El Capitan high school and has been part of the track team for the past four
years. During his time on the the team he has exhibited a dedicated work ethic. He comes to practice ready to learn
and is always looking for ways to improve his craft by seeking out help or advice from others. Ben is motivated to
succeed and brings that attitude to all his events. He is the first one on the track and the last one off. He is eager to
share his knowledge of the sport with his teammates to help them succeed. This dedication to his sport earned him
success this past season by achieving his personal best times.
Ben is a dedicated athlete and an outstanding student in the class. He currently has a GPA over 3.00 here at
El Capitan High School. While attending El Capitan High School he has been a track athlete, member of the football
and member of the Pacific Club. He is currently part of the Pacific Club and is a mentor to all students he works
with. Ben has provided leadership to students he interacts with as well as members of his team. Ben is a
well-organized student who understands the importance of balancing school and extracurricular activities with his
everyday life. Learning to balance all that is happening in his life has prepared him for the future that he has ahead
for himself.
Overall, Ben has proven to be a outstanding student in and outside of the classroom. Ben is currently
applying to colleges to continue with his education and pursue his dreams. College is an important next step for Ben
on his path. He is motivated and ready to attend college. He wants to make his family proud and continue his
success in a higher education. With all of his accomplishments and understanding of the what it takes to succeed
Ben is well prepared to move on. It is my recommendation that Ben Avila will be a great representative of any
scholarships that he has applied for. If you have any questions or would like to know more about Ben feel free to
contact me.

Sincerely,

Matthew Ybarra
