As her supervisor for student teaching at Roberto Clemente Community Academy, | had a close working relationship with Danielle from January 2018 through March 2018. | had multiple opportunities to observe Danielle in the classroom as well as collaborative meetings. From the start, was impressed with Danielle as a skilled curriculum designer, compassionate teacher, and experienced professional. | think Danielle would be a positive contributor to any teaching environment. ‘As a skilled curriculum designer, Danielle created an English 1 unit that aligned with International Baccalaureate ‘and Common Core standards. She is exceptionally knowledgeable in her Language Arts content area due to her involvement as a graduate student and instructor in the English Department at University of Illinois at Chicago. Danielle's lessons were rigorous, yet scaffolded based on student needs. She utilized multiple modes of learning and technology to engage students. Lastly, Danielle was flexible and adaptive; she was reflective and responsive to the interests and abilties of the students, and made necessary changes each day. Danielle was also a compassionate teacher. Roberto Clemente serves a population of students who live in low-income areas, and many of our students have been exposed to trauma. Through the school's professional development program, Danielle attended several trainings and meetings that focused on how to identify trauma and use restorative practices to build positive relationships with students. Throughout her time at Clemente, | noticed a change in how Danielle responded to student behavior issues. Danielle truly embraced restorative justice, and handled each student concern with care and compassion. Lastly, Danielle is a true professional. As previously mentioned, Danielle has been an instructor at the college level at UIC, and itis evident that she has more professional experience than most student teachers. She was early and well-prepared for every day of teaching or meeting. Danielle is also comfortable asking questions and problem-solving with the team. She is respectful, helpful, and solution-oriented. | believe Danielle would be a positive addition to any school culture, Danielle Bauman-Epstein receives my strong recommendation, and | would be happy to answer any further questions.
