Teaching/Artistic Philosophy

The world is in a constant motion with new concepts and ideas that surround us and

empower our perception. Oddly enough, we come out with those new concepts and ideas.

Continuously and unknowingly, we shape our perception to put our world in a motion. We are

gifted with exceptional abilities which distinguish us within this whole ecosystem. We as a

human being, we feel, think, and create for meaningful concepts and ideas for the better lifestyle

and social justice. This course of action can only evolve from new experiences and appropriate

guidance. Teaching and learning is the foundation stone for deriving our truly exceptional and

gifted abilities. We search for an innovation, a catharsis for our self-growth, an ultimate change

for our perception.

Virginia McEnerney, the Executive director of the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards,

once mentioned, “In order to change, students must first learn to create.” Humans are eternal

learners, and no matter what age, one can always learn and create. As an artist and educator, I

want to be an influential person to young people who often turn to the arts to help them develop

their own identities and communicate and understand ideas, beliefs and emotions. Art affects

human understanding and interpretation of the world. Therefore, I cannot stress enough the

importance of developing creative problem-solving skills that are critical for success in our

rapidly changing world with more advanced technology and innovation. A philosophy of art

education must involve an understanding of student learners, child development, artistic

development, and how each student learns things differently based on their abilities.

In my classroom, inclusive learning environment is the most crucial part of my teaching.

In order to make it inclusive, I use a content rich discipline-based approach to teaching art, which

includes teaching about art history, art aesthetics, art concepts, art criticism, and studio art.

Furthermore, I value all the insights and prior knowledge that every student brings into my

classroom; therefore, I develop my lesson to allow more student choice. This way, students can

create and reflect at a personal level and stay engaged throughout the entire projects. Moreover,

it will often lead many students to challenge their abilities further and explore the contents at a

deeper level. I have developed and taught curriculum for the K-12 art classroom that uses

interdisciplinary methods that enhance learning, creativity, innovation, and community outreach

that addresses the diverse population of students and the world around them.

In the rapidly changing technological world filled with many human and social problems,

art education plays an important role in cultivating creative thinkers and innovators who find the

solutions to the problems. In addition, art and art education allow people to make further

application in diverse fields of areas and integrate multiple contents to learn about our

existences. In order to go beyond from simply creating artworks for self-expression and pleasure,

I consider the ways I can flourish the minds of young people to prepare them for the higher-level

education and outside world. I provide students an atmosphere in which creative thinking is

encouraged and developed. After all, there is “no mistake” in art. Everyone has different

personal experiences, abilities, and perceptions. My goal is to ensure a classroom that guides

students to find their identity and understand their strengths and their capability to make personal

connections with their surroundings while making achievements. We must send our students

forward, confident in the knowledge that we have inspired them to never lose the passion for

learning and creating.
