Section 1: Rationale (Approx 100 words)

While on this course I have discovered new skills from working on the different units such as developing
research and planning skills. Creative and animation skills when working on Clayfighter and graphic
design. I have also gained knowledge in producing and creating interactive and visual media using the
programs Gamemaker, Autodesk 3DS Max, Premier Pro and After Effects. Throughout the units I have
also developed new skills such as creating animated pixel art, basic skills in animation, the different use
of techniques used when editing film and creating 3D models for games.

From before joining the course, I only had basic knowledge in editing in Premiere Pro and After Effects
from when I did Level 1 Media but didn’t possess an understanding of what the different techniques
were actually used for. I did have previous experience using Gamemaker from Secondary School and
Level 2 IT but didn’t have any practice in creating detailed animated pixel art. Finally the reason why I
chose to develop a game instead of one of the other options Is because I want to go onto level 3 but I
also like to have the chance to develop my first somewhat proper 2D game and have fun with finding
new skills in using pixel art and Gamemaker.
Section 2: Project Concept (approx 200 words)
From the two options to make a game from I chose the route of stopping a bomb from going off. When
researching for this game I shall look at other games created with and without Gamemaker with a similar
concept I will also look at pixel art among other types of game art used for inspiration. Watching action
movie scenes and general pictures of scenery and atmosphere is also a way I will do research and get
inspiration for creating the action in my game and creating my own version of this type of game.

After waiting for some time I came up with another idea which is a survival type game where as you play
you need to collect resources being wood and rocks to then turn them into building blocks which you
can use to build a base turning the game into a tower defence type game where you have to defend the
base you built from the bombs that try and attack you. To defend your base you will be able to shoot a
gun or two to kill the bombs that come towards your base.
Section 3: Evaluation Methods (approx 50 words)
When evaluating my project I will periodically take screenshots and annotate the progress which has
been made from previous annotated screenshots. I shall also explain on how research from similar
games and pictures helped with the influence on my game. I can also ask other peers for quick
feedback by letting them test the game while in development. Once I have finished with the creation of
my game I will write up a document about how the game works and give a summary on the creation of
the game overall including screenshots and feedback of the final product.
Proposed Research Sources and Bibliography
When commencing research for my final project I will look at Youtube videos and possibly tutorials
on how to do certain things. I can also play other games with that have a similar concept of
stopping / beating a bomb to help with creating a fun experience in my own game. When
researching, I will also look at action films and images for creating an interesting atmosphere in my
game. In addition to this I will do general online research looking through different websites and
gather feedback from others in what features they would like to see in this type of game. Finally I
can use the college resources such as books from the LRC or ask the tutors on the course for
suggestions.

Project Action Plan and Timetable
This section provides you with an opportunity to outline your planning and organisation over a period of weeks, and the
activities you will need to carry out in order to successful complete your project within the agreed time frame. It is
important that you consider how you will balance ambition, time and realism in the realisation of the project.
This should include what you are going to do, how you will do it and by when. The more time and thought you give to
planning your project, the more successful it is likely to be. Remember to include: time spent sourcing materials,
questionnaires, access to workshops, tutorial and peer group feedback, and where you will incorporate independent
study
