Step 1 Professional Growth Goal: To improve my teaching effectiveness in the School’s Greatest Area of
Need Subject and Indicators. The subject is Reading and the Indicators are letter/sound identification,
decoding CVC words (blending), and Reading Literature (character, setting and plot).

Standard Indicator 3.1: Demonstrates constructive use of time, space, resources, and activities for
instruction.

Step 2 Your rationale for choosing this goal. If I improve my effectiveness in teaching Reading and
Indicators for letter/sound identification, phenome segmentation and non-sense words, my student
outcomes improve.

We the faculty, staff and parents of Juan M. Guerrero Elementary School are dedicated to the educational growth and achievement of our students
within a positive learning environment in order to be productive citizens.
Step 3 Evidence of Professional Growth/Evidence of Student Growth

KINDERGARTEN ELA SMART GOAL: By the End of SY 2017-2018, 100% of Kindergarten


Students will show growth in Reading Foundational Skills as measured by 35% or Higher on
AIMSWeb Early Literacy Tests (Letter Naming, Letter Sounds, Phoneme Segmentation and Non-
Sense Words).

The following scores are baseline data for Letter Naming. All 4 areas (letter/sound identification,
phenome segmentation and non-sense words) will be assessed during Winter and Spring
benchmark.
39 % of my students at Tier I will be proficient according to Grade Level criteria in
letter/sound identification, phoneme segmentation and non-sense words, as measured by the
AIMSWeb Assessment by the end of the school year.

9 % of my students at Tier II will be proficient according to Grade Level criteria in letter/sound


identification, phoneme segmentation and non-sense words, as measured by AIMSWeb
Assessment by the end of the school year.

52 % of my students at Tier III will be basic to proficient according to Grade Level criteria in
letter/sound identification, phoneme segmentation and non-sense words, as measured by
AIMSWeb Assessment by the end of the school year.

As evidence of Professional Growth/Evidence of Student Growth, I will provide an online website


with the following:

 AIMS Web assessment scores for Fall, Winter and Spring (Assessment for Letter/Sound
Identification)

 Graphs showing student growth based on assessments (AIMS Web assessment scores- Fall,
Winter and Spring)

 Lesson plans and activities during ELA and ELA Intervention block focused on Letter/Sound
identification, phenome segmentation and non-sense words that are aligned with the district’s
adopted curriculum recognizing the needs, learning styles, and performance of diverse learners.
Lesson plans and/or intervention activities for each of the Greatest Areas of Need in
kindergarten ELA.

 Evidence of class schedule through pictures and video (reading workshop schedule, ELA
intervention block, etc.) to demonstrate constructive use of time, space resources and activities
for instruction.
