5. Responsibilities
5.1. Site Manager:
5.1.1. SM is the first responsible point to follow this procedure,
5.1.2. In cases when the staff do not apply or do not fulfill requirement of this
procedure SM will do required actions such as to inform people who are
unaware, to supply right material, machinery and equipment and/or to
ensure specific training to improve team’s ability.
5.1.3. To revise this procedure if it is necessary.
5.1.4. To assign responsible engineers and foremen, to coordinate all activities
5.1.5. To ensure training, informing and updating people who work to apply this
procedure regardless their position,
5.1.6. To coordinate with PPR.
5.2.5. To identify existing and predictable hazards or working conditions that are
hazardous, unsanitary, or dangerous to employees,
5.2.6. To take prompt corrective measures to eliminate or control hazards and
conditions.
5.2.7. To coordinate with Supervising Engineer from PPR.
5.2.8. To ensure that the staff involved in the activities has read and understand
the method statement.
5.2.9. To brief the staff involved about the healthy and safe performance of all
activities (toolbox talks).
5.2.10. To receive and/or define all standards including this Method Statement,
5.2.11. To obtain all the necessary standards,
5.2.12. To ensure maintenance compliance with this method statement.
5.2.13. To coordinate with the PPR.
6. IMPLEMENTATION
6.1. General
This system protects pipes against corrosive.
6.2. Transport
Transportation of Instrument is placed properly. Crane will be used and all necessary
precaution matures will be taken. Provide truck to transportation of materials and
accessories from storage area to the field. Use crane for lifting and carrying materials
boxes. It will be stayed suitable places, so it prevents to work and workers work safely.
6.4. Installation
Fill the hole with concrete and leave braced until the concrete sets.
Excess spoil to be removed from site.
M4 type concrete marker post.
Follow procedure as in 5.1.2, except there will be no cables.
DC Cables
Cable connections to the pipe should be made as in 5.1.1.
Buried cables should lie at a depth that will protect them from disturbance by
ploughing or other excavations. Cable tiles or cable warning tape should be used to
warn of the presence of the cable during any subsequent excavation.
- Cables should be colour coded or marked to identify them.
Sacrificial Anode
- Installation of sacrificial anodes should be in accordance with BS7361.
- Ensure that all relevant site conditions and working practices are observed. If
necessary obtain a work permit as required by the site.
- Locate the site and clear any undergrowth.
- Check for buried services with a pipe/cable locator.
- Excavate to the required depth, and excavate trench for cable as required.
- Ensure that any plastic covering is removed from the anode. The muslin bag should
be left intact.
- Place the anode in the required position and water thoroughly. (A bucket of water is
ideal)
- Terminate cables as required.
- Backfill the excavation and re-instate the ground.
- Excess spoil to be removed from site
Transformer-Rectifier Procedures
- Groundbed
- Ensure that all relevant site conditions and working practices are observed. If
necessary obtain a work permit as required by the site.
- Locate the site and clear any undergrowth.
- Check for buried services with a pipe/cable locator.
- Excavate to the required depth, and excavate trench for cable as required.
- Arrange the anodes and main cable ready for installation.
- Connect the anodes and the main cable according to the specification. Actual
connections are usually made by line tap (split bolt) and sealed with an appropriate
splice kit filled with resin. Ensure sufficient time is allowed for the resin to set.
- Allow sufficient cable to enable either termination in a junction box near to the
trench or at the transformer. This will be specified according to the design of the
system.
- Test the continuity of the cables.
- Use half the carbonaceous backfill and line the bottom of the trench.
- Place the anodes and main cable on the carbonaceous backfill.
7. HSE
7.1. Personal protective equipment
PPE will be provided and used in accordance with requirements. Helmet, safety glasses,
high visibility vest, and safety shoes will be used at all the times.
When work in dusty environment personnel will use dust protective half masks.
Hearing protection will be used where exposure levels exceed 85 dB.
When work at height fall arrest system will be used if other protective measures are not
feasible.
When work with welding, welders will use welders’ clothes, gloves, protective face masks.
7.2. Machinery
All machinery, equipment and tools will be maintained in good working order; will be
inspected regularly; and will be operated by competent persons. All necessary measures
will be in place in order to prevent environmental pollution. In case of oil spill an
immediate actions will be taken to localize and clean the area in accordance with the
procedure. Guards will be in place to protect workers from moving parts. Electrical tools
will be double insulated and grounded connected to ground fault circuit interrupters
(GFCI).
All vehicles will have backing warning device. Banks man will guide vehicles in narrow
work places and when reversing. Vehicles will not pass, will not be positioned or parked
close to excavation edges.
Lifting equipment will not be used in the open air where weather conditions could affect
the integrity of the equipment or expose persons to danger.
