This document outlines an assignment for an 11-minute public presentation on an ethical case study. Students must choose a case not covered in class and get approval from the professor. The presentation requires a PowerPoint with limited words and more graphics, notecards instead of paper for notes, and a 2-3 page APA style summary of the case and conclusions turned in after. Grading criteria include completing all elements, demonstrating a coherent and polished discussion connecting to the audience, and showing an understanding of the ethics issues. Lower grades are given for incomplete elements, surface-level understanding, and lack of preparation.

Description: Take eleven minutes of class time to present an ethical
discussion/position using a case study. You must choose a case that has not been covered in class (first come first/serve on the media violence case studies). The professor, in advance of the presentation, must approve all case studies. Project Elements: • Powerpoint (limited words more graphics to illustrate points) • Notecards (NO regular sized notebook paper) • Outline of speech turned in the day of presentation to professor • 2-3 page summary of ethical case and your conclusions turned in the day of presentation to professor (must be typed). APA style with title page and reference (need to reference textbook and at least three outsides sources both on a reference page and in-text citations for the summary).
A Presentation All project elements are complete and the
discussion is coherent and makes a point. The speaker makes eye contact and connects to the audience and had clearly practiced the presentation prior to presenting it to the class.
B Presentation All project elements are complete but there is
only a surface level understanding of the media ethics surrounding the case chosen. Ethics discussion and understanding is not as polished and shows lack of time in preparation.
C Presentation Only basic elements of all components of project
are turned in and presentation is not polished. Understanding of media ethics is surface level at best and there are numerous copy editing errors in paper summary and outline.
D Presentation Parts of the project elements are not turned in on
time and the speech is too short and clearly not thought out or practiced.
