Diary

Day 1

My aim for today is to start the web banner, the ILP, the diary, and the checklist. I need to
make sure that I set the right size for the stage size. I have the aim of finishing or almost
finishing the layout of the web banner.

I opened the software Director

and then selected ‘Director File’
under the heading ‘Create
New’.

In ‘Property Inspector’ I went

to the heading ‘Movie’ and set
the stage size to 1200 x 200. I
then went to the ‘Tool
Window’ and changed the
setting from ‘Default’ to ‘Classic’.

I then saved the web banner for the

first time. I went on to ‘File’ and then
‘Save As’. I went on to my ‘Personal
Space’ and then on to Unit 65,
Assignment 3. I named the file ‘Web
Banner’.

I then needed to import my assest. However, I will not import the music file until
the near the end of the project. I went on to ‘File’ and then ‘Import’.
I then found my asset file and then selected the
images and the video that I wanted to import and
then clicked ‘Import’.

For all the images I needed to click ‘OK’ on the

‘Image Options’ that appeared.
I then started to
complete the layout of
the web banner. I
dragged and dropped
the background image onto the
‘Stage’. It also then appeared on the
‘Timeline’ as well. I adjusted the
image to make it fit the stage. I also
made the sprite length longer. I made
the background image slightly bigger
that the ‘Stage’ so that there would
not be any
gaps around
the edge of
the ‘Stage’.

When
extending
the sprite
length of the
background,
I needed to
make it last
for 30
seconds.
Director
works at 12
frames a second, the web banner
needs to last for 30 seconds.
30x12=360. The background’s
sprite length needed to be
extended to frame 360.
I decided to now edit the music. I went
onto Adobe Premiere Pro. I selected
‘New Project’ and I then changed the name of the
project to ‘Greate Night – Edited’. I then went to ‘File’
and then ‘Import’.
I found the file that I wanted to import and then selected it. It
then appeared in the ‘Project Window’. I dragged and dropped it
into the ‘Sources Window’.

I then found the

part of the song
that I wanted to
use. I used the ‘Mark-
in’ and the ‘Mark-out’
tools to set the
beginning and the
end of the edited
music clip. I tried to
edit just the
instrumental parts of
the music but it didn’t
sound right, so I just
cut out the quiet part
at the beginning of
the song and the very
end of the song. I may
need to find a
different song.
I dragged and dropped the music
clip from the ‘Project Window’
into the ‘Timeline Window’.
I then went to ‘File’, ‘Export’, and
then ‘Media’. I exported it as an MP3.
I
then
went
back
onto Director and then went
onto ‘File’ and then ‘Import’. I then found the file and clicked on ‘Import’. It then
appeared in the ‘Cast List’.
I then dragged and
dropped the music file into
the first audio channel on
the ‘Score’. I extended the
sprite length of the music
file so that it would last
most of the song. I
extended it to the frame
length 690.
I then saved the web banner by clicking
on ‘File’ and then ‘Save’.
I then dragged and dropped the logo
into the second sprite channel. I then
adjusted the size of the logo. I held
down the ‘Shift’ key to keep the images
dimensions the same. I also used the
grid to make sure that the logo was in
the centre of the web banner.

I then needed to extend the sprite length of the logo. On my dope sheets, I said
that this part of the web banner would be 10 seconds long. The frame rate per
second is 12. 12x10=120 frames.

I then wanted to add a ‘fade in’

on the logo. I went to the ‘Code:
Library’. I selected ‘Behaviours’,
‘Animation’, ‘Automatic’ and I
then selected the option ‘Fade In
Out’. I dragged and dropped this
option on to the logo. I changed
the ‘Time period for fade (in seconds)’ to
2.30.
I then saved the web banner.
I watched the first part of the web banner through and decided to make the first part
shorter. I decided that the logo should appear for 8 seconds. 12x8=84 frames. I shortened
the sprite length of the logo to frame 84.
I then saved the web banner.

I have learnt how to change the stage size on Director. I have learnt how to import image,
video, and music files into the ‘Cast List’. I also learnt how to adjust sprite length in the
‘Score’. I learnt that by pressing the ‘Shift’ key you can keep the images dimensions when
changing its size. I learnt how to add a fade onto an image and how to change the settings
of the fade. I learnt that Director works at 12 frames per second.
Day 2
My aim for today is today is to complete scene numbers 2 and 3 on Director. I also aim to
begin and possibly finish the 4th scene.

I dragged and
dropped the
logo into the 3rd
channel. I then
held down the
‘Shift’ key and
changed the
size of the logo.

I then needed to extend the sprite length. The logo

needs to reach the 22nd second of the web banner.
22x12=264 frames. I extended the sprite length to
frame 264.
I then dragged and dropped the video into the
channel beneath the logo (channel 4). I decided to
change the layout that I had made on the dope
sheets. This is because the stage size was a lot longer
than I had thought it was.

I pressed the ‘Shift’ key and then changed the

size of the video. I then moved it into the
right-hand side of the stage.
I extended the sprite length to frame 264.
I save the web banner.
I watched the web banner through and noticed that the video was not coming in at the
same time as the logo, so I moved the logos sprite across by one frame to frame 86.
I then went to ‘Library’, and then ‘Behaviours’, and then ‘Animation’, and
then ‘Automatic’. I dragged and
dropped the option ‘Fade In Out’
onto the logo and changed the
‘Time period for fade (seconds)’
to 0.25.
I then saved my web banner.
I then needed to add the text that will roll up the screen.
The text was supposed to start appearing after 15 seconds. 15x12=180 frames. I dragged
and dropped the text onto the stage at frame 180. I put the text into the 5th channel and I
extended the sprite length to frame 264.

I then adjusted the size of the text whilst holding the ‘Shift’
key. I then moved the text to below the ‘Stage’.
In the centre of the text there is a cluster of circles. I
dragged the circles to the top of the ‘Stage’. After watching
the web banner through, I decided that the text needs to
appear earlier than it already does and it needs to be
slower. This can be changed by extending the sprite length
before the frame the already starts.
The end of the text is still cut off so I decided to extend the path (the yellow line
that comes off of the cluster of circles) to above the ‘Stage’.
I watched the web banner through and thought that the adjustment was okay.
I saved the web banner.
I have completed scenes 1,2, and 3. I am now moving on to the 4th scene where
there is a guitar with some text.
I needed to create the text on Photoshop. I opened Photoshop and set up the new
project with a transparent background.
I went on to ‘File’ and then ‘Open’. I selected the image with the
alphabet in the style of the font that I wanted to use. I clicked on
‘Open’.
I then went to ‘Window’ and then ‘Arrange’. I then selected
‘Float In Window’.

I set a grid by
clicking on ‘View’
and then ‘Show’. I
then selected ‘Grid’.

I then used the ‘Crop

Tool’ to edit the size
of the page.

I then selected the ‘Magic Wand Tool’ to and selected the letters that I needed to create the
word ‘GET’. When selecting the letters, to move them I pressed the ‘Ctrl’ key to cut out the
letter.

I have learnt how to create an animation on Director by dragging the cluster of circles in the
centre of the image and then moving it away from the picture creating a path that the
image will take.
Day 3
My aim for today is to finish completing the text in Photoshop and to then import it into
Director. I also have the aim to complete the fourth scene and to start the fifth scene.
I continued to edit the text on Photoshop. I did the same process to create the words
‘Tickets’, ‘Whilst’, ‘They’, ‘Last’. I used the
‘Magic Wand Tool’ to select the letters that I
needed and then I pressed ‘Ctrl’, to move
them across to the transparent background.

I then imported these images into Director. I

went on to ‘File’ and then ‘Import’. I found the images that I wanted to
import and then clicked on ‘Import’. These assets appeared in the ‘Cast
List’.
I then dragged and dropped the
first word on to the ‘Timeline’ on
channel 6, frame 164.

I adjusted the size of the image and I then

dragged and dropped the rest of the words.

I needed to extend the sprite

lengths to the right length. This
scene was supposed to go up to the 26th
second of the web banner. 12x26=312
frames.

I extended the sprite lengths to frame

312.
I dragged and dropped the image of the guitar
into the 11th channel and extended its’ sprite
length to frame 312.
I rearranged
the layout of
the scene and
decided to add
another guitar
at the sides of
the text. I
dragged and
dropped the
guitar into the
th
12 channel and then extended the sprite
length to frame 312.
I right clicked on the image and then
‘Transform’ and I then selected ‘Mirror
Horizontal’. I then rearranged the layout
again.
I then added an animation to the guitars. I moved the images of the guitar to the
outside of the ‘Stage’. I then clicked on one of the guitars and then dragged the cluster
of circles to the point that the guitar was going to land. The yellow line that appeared
marked out the path that the image will take.

I have learnt how to flip and image in Director and how to import assets during the middle
of the project.
Day 4
My aim for today is to complete the web banner and to export it. I also have the aim of
creating the tickets and adding the rollovers onto them.
Firstly, I went onto Photoshop to create the tickets for
the final scene. I started a new project by clicking on
‘File’ and then ‘New’. I used the default settings but
changed the background setting to transparent.
I then went back to ‘File’ and then clicked ‘Open’. I selected the
assets that I needed to create the tickets. I clicked ‘Open’ when I
had found them.
I then went to ‘Window’, ‘Arrange’, and then ‘Float in Window’.
I used the ‘Magic Wand’ to select the ticket. I then pressed ‘Ctrl’
to cut and move the image onto the transparent background.
I selected the ‘Text Tool’ and then created a text box. I used the font ‘OCR A
Extended’ and the font size was 36pt. I then typed the words ‘Under 18’.
I went to ‘File’ and the ‘Save As’. I saved the project as it was
and I then re-saved it as a PNG. I saved it as a PNG by selecting it
as an option in the drop-down menu.
I used the same process for all the tickets.

I now needed to import these new assets into the ‘Cast List’ in
Director. I went onto ‘File’ and then ‘Import’.
I selected all the new assets. I then clicked on ‘Import’.

I dragged and dropped the first ticket into the ‘Timeline’. I placed it
in the 13th channel at frame 313.
I re-positioned it on the Stage.

I dragged and dropped the rest of the ticket

categories on to the ‘Timeline’. I also re-
positioned them.
I then needed to extend their sprite lengths. This scene is supposed to last to the end
and then paus on that scene. I extended
the spite length to the same length as the
background, frame 360.

I then needed the web

banner to pause on that scene.
So, I opened a script channel by
clicking just above frame 360. A
dialogue box opened up and I
then typed ‘go to the Frame’. I
then closed the dialogue box and then I played the web banner through. The web
banner stopped and held the final frame. I saved the web banner at this point.
I then wanted to add rollovers to the tickets. In the ‘Library’ I went to ‘Behaviours’,
‘Animation’, ‘Interactive’, I then found ‘Rollover Member Change’. I dragged and
dropped this option onto the
first ticket. In the dialogue
box that then appeared I
found the image that I wanted it to rollover to in the drop-down menu. I then clicked
‘OK’.
I then checked to see
if it had worked. It did
so I saved the web
banner.
I used the same process on all the tickets.

I ran the web banner through to make sure

that it worked. I then saved it.
I then wanted to add the little pixel
character to that page. I dragged and
dropped it from the ‘Cast List’ on to the
timeline and I changed its sprite length
to be the same as the tickets sprite
length. I then moved re-positioned it so
that it was in the centre of the screen.
I decided to have several small pixel
characters fall down the gaps between
the tickets. So, I added several more pixel characters to the ‘Timeline’. I then moved them to
be just outside of the ‘Stage’.
I then clicked on the first on and
then dragged the cluster of circles
that appeared in the centre of the
circle down towards the bottom
of the stage. The line that then
appeared shows that path that
the image will take when the web
banner is played.

I then played the web banner

through to make sure that
everything was working.
I then saved it.

The last thing that I wanted to do before I exported the web banner was to add a text box
that would tell the user to hover their mouse over a ticket to find out more.

I clicked on the text tool in the ‘Tool Box’. I then clicked on the ‘Stage’ to create a text
box.
I repositioned
the text and I
then highlighted
it. I then right
clicked on and then selected ‘Size’. I then changed the size to
‘18 points’. I then repositioned the text again so that it was
more central on the ‘Stage’.

I then saved the web banner.

I realised that the web banner was not 30 seconds but actually 12 seconds. Using a timer,
I figured out that 30 seconds is around 915 frames. I then extended the background and
the music to around this frame. I also deleted the navigation making the web banner
pause at that point. I then moved the final scene sprites to that point as well. I made the
first frame 105 frames long. The rest of the scenes are 270 frames long.

On frame 915 I opened up a dialogue box and typed in the words ‘go to the
Frame’.

I then played the web banner through to make sure that everything
worked.
I saved the web banner.
I have now finished and now I need
to export it.

I went onto ‘File’ and then ‘Publishing

Settings…’. I selected the option ‘Windows
Projector’. I then clicked on ‘Publish’.

It then appeared as a completed file on in

the ‘Personal Space’.

I have learnt how to add a rollover to the

images and how to apply text to the web
banner. I have learnt how to add navigation to the web banner through dialogue boxes. I
have also learnt how to export a project when it has been completed.
