1.1 .INTRODUCTION
The growing competition among the educational institutes of public and private sectors have made college teacher
jobs quite an attractive career option for young professionals. College teacher jobs offer an opportunity to keep oneself
engaged in academic exercises for life. Some people also find college teacher jobs attractive as the working hours are not
very long and they also get occasional vacations in the year. Thus, college teachers are left with enough time so that they
can utilize them for doing research in their respective fields and generate new knowledge or document history. Therefore
college teacher jobs offer enough opportunity to establish one's authority and credibility in your area of interest. Doing
research, in fact, becomes a part of the job in lecturer jobs, as it is very important to show one's publications for moving
up in the career ladder.

While the private educational institutions have already raised the salaries of college teachers to make the best
faculty, public educational institutions in different countries are also under pressure to increase the salaries of the college
teachers to retain talent in their institutions. Thus, college teacher jobs today have the potential of not only providing job
satisfaction, but also fulfilling the material needs adequately. Therefore, in this section we are trying to bring to your notice
all the college teacher jobs available in India and college teacher jobs available abroad. It would include the Lecturer jobs,
Reader's jobs and Professor's jobs of various educational institutes

1.3. OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

To find out the level of job satisfaction of college teachers in Ernakulam District.

1.4. METHODOLOGY OF THE STUDY

The tool used in the study for collecting data is a questionnaire which includes questions on the respondents’
employment, working environment, level of job satisfaction, motivation for research and general. From the total number
of teachers working in Aided and Self-financing colleges in and around Eranakulam district, 300 respondents have been
selected as sample. The teachers have been selected on convenience sampling basis.Primary and Secondary data were
collected for the study. Primary data was collected with the help of Questionnaire and secondary data were collected
through records, journals and websites. Data collected are analysis by using simple percentage methods and multiple
regression rts are used wherever necessary.

1.5.LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY

2. The present study limited only Eranakulam district.
3. The time and resources available for the study is limited
4. The present study include only Arts and Science College
5. The response given by the college teachers may be biased

1.6. ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETRATION

REGRESSION AND INTER-CORRELATION
Multiple regression co-efficient measures separate the relationship between two variables in such a way that the
effects of other related variables are eliminated. In other words, it measures the relation between a dependent variable and
a particular independent variable by holding all other variables constant.

JASC: JOURNAL OF APPLIED SCIENCE AND COMPUTATIONS ISSN NO: 0076-5131

Thus, each multiple regression co-efficient measures the effect of its independent variable on the dependent
variable. Multiple regression analysis of job satisfaction and workplace conditions of staff (Y) was performed with variables
and job satisfaction and compensation (X1 ) Job satisfaction and parent response (X2), job satisfaction and infrastructure
(X3), job satisfaction and professional development (X4) and job satisfaction and monetary benefits (X5) and the following
regression model is fitted for performance:

X16 = Bo + b1X1 + b2 X2 +b3 X3 + ……….

Where b1, b2,…….and b5 are partial regression coefficients; bo-constant. The results are presented in Table 1

Table 1 reveals correlation analysis that has been done on all the Data collected through the survey. This analysis
is done to show the existing relation among the study variables, namely, organisational causes, job related causes, human
related causes, societal causes and domestic causes. Impact of stress of employees are significantly correlated with the job
satisfaction and compensation, (r = .313, p<0.01), job satisfaction and parent response, (r = .397, p<0.01), job satisfaction
and infrastructure, (r = 0.639, p< 0.01), job satisfaction and professional development (r = 0.738, p<0.01) and job
satisfaction and monetary benefits (r = 0.268, p< 0.01). Here, all of the predictor variables were entered simultaneously as
the predictor variables and the stepwise method was used.

Above table 3 Standardized Beta Coefficients give a measure of the contribution of each variable to the model. A large
value indicates that a unit change in this predictor variable has a large effect on the criterion variable. The t and Sig ( p) values
give a rough indication of the impact of each predictor variable, namely, the job satisfaction and compensation, (t- 18.794, p-
0.000, p< 0.01), job satisfaction and parent response, (t - 18.81, p-0.00, p<0.01), job satisfaction and infrastructure, (t – 16.80,

monetary benefits (t- 18.33, p- 0.00, P< 0.01) a big absolute ‘t’ value and ‘p’ value suggests that a predictor variable has a large
impact on the criterion variable (Table 4.42.(iii).).

1.7 SUGGESTIONS OF THE STUDY

1. The workload of teachers can minimize, so that they can involve in research activity. The teachers can be allowed to
handle both UG and PG classes. They can mold their students according to the currents industrial needs, so that they can
easily employable in the concern.
2. Teachers can encourage publishing articles in the Journals, by providing necessary facilities.Monetary assistant can
provide for teachers for their upgrading their knowledge according to the current scenario.
3. By providing more allowances they can participate more seminars or conference in the national and international level.
Apart from the teaching, teachers can concentrate on research and consultancy activities, which are essential for the
development of the nation. They can undertake more minor and major project.
4. Organization should organize regular check up and those found suffering from very high stress should be subjected to
stress management process.

5. Cut back excessive hours, which directly affect the teachers’ physical fitness.
6. Implement attractive system of reward and recognition of good work.

1.8. CONCLUSION OF THE STUDY

The factors which are intrinsic to the job and motivated them were recognition, work itself, advance opportunities and
possibility of growth and the extrinsic factor that acted as a major dissatisfying factor was poor compensation and benefits
offered by the institution. Many faculty members felt that there was poor interpersonal relationships prevailing in the
work-setting and the common factor indicated by them was verbal abuse by the management. The analysis throws light on
the fact the lecturers are satisfied with their profession and were dissatisfied with the Institution they were serving. This
phenomenon has a wider implication. When they leave, the institution might suffer as the student community is deprived
of being in the same hands for a sustained period, which has its own benefit. When a dissatisfied faculty member decides
to stay with the Institution it is detrimental to the college in innumerable ways. Lethargy, disinterest in work, low
classroom performance, poor results in University examinations and an overall decline in the attention that is needed to be
given to the students could be the outcome of such a decision.
