▐ Polling Finds Gil Cisneros Leading Primary Field in California’s 39th


Congressional District

A new Tulchin Research poll of 500 likely June 2018 primary voters in California’s 39th
Congressional District finds Democrat Gil Cisneros leading the crowded open primary field and
on track to advance to the general election. Our polling finds that Cisneros, an education and
veterans’ advocate, has decisively broken away from the rest of the Democratic field while
Republicans Young Kim and Bob Huff are tied for second place and competing for a spot on the
November ballot.

for Second Place
Our poll finds that Democrat Gil Cisneros currently leads the primary field with 20 percent of the
vote, followed by Republicans Young Kim and Bob Huff, each of whom is receiving 14 percent.
Cisneros leads all of his opponents outside of the survey’s margin of error and leads his closest
Democratic rival, Andy Thorburn, by 9 points and a margin of nearly 2-to-1.

In conclusion, Gil Cisneros has a decisive lead in the primary and is on track to finish first in June
and advance to the November general election. Young Kim and Bob Huff are the clear leaders
among the Republican candidates and are locked in a close competition for second place and the
opportunity to face Cisneros in November.

Survey Methodology: From May 16-20, 2018, Tulchin Research conducted a telephone survey among
500 likely June 2018 primary election voters in California’s 39th Congressional District using live
professional interviewers, conducting interviews in both English and Spanish and calling both landlines and
cell phones. The margin of error for the survey is +/- 4.38 percentage points.
