KENYA 2009 POPULATION AND HOUSING CENSUS RESULTS: FACT

The population of Kenya from the year 1879 to 2009 is as follows:

1897 – 2.5 million people.


1948 – 5.4 million people.
1962 – 8.6 million people.
1969 – 10.9 million people.
1979 – 15.3 million people.
1989 – 21.4 million people.
1999 – 28.7 million people.
2009 – 38,610,097 million people.

• Muslim population stands at 4, 304, 798 people.


• The Somali Population of North Eastern Province stands at
2,310,757 people.
• The Number of households in the region stands at 312,661
households.
• Most populous county in NEP is Mandera district with 559,943
males and 465,813 females.
• Mandera central is the most populous constituency with 225, 579
males and 191,715 females (Total 417,294).
