 Khushoo’ is when our heart and minds are thoughtful of Allah


 The love of Allah and his awareness that Allah is watching us every time and
it makes people to enjoy khushoo during worship.
 Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) warned us that shaytan tries to ruin our prayers
 Shaytan tries to ruin our prayers by distracting us with thoughts of worldly
matters.
 Shaytan has promised to mislead and tempt the sons of Adam.
 There are five steps to develop khushoo’.
 First step is to have complete awareness of Allah.
 Second step is to understand what you are saying during Salah.
 Third step is to feel Allah’s greatness in the heart during Salah.
 Fourth step is to pray in a calm place.
 Fifth step is to pray while relaxed.

Critical Thinking Questions

Q-1: How can you tell if a person has khushoo’ during prayer?
Ans: When a person has khushoo’ during prayer, he or she will be completely
focused in his or her prayer and calm.
Q-2: Shaytan doesn’t want to have khoshoo’ in your Salah. Why and how?
Ans: Shaytan tries his best that we do not experience khushoo’ in Salah. Why?
Because he doesn’t want us to gain much rewards for it. He wants us to offer
faulty Salah that ends up unaccepted by Allah. How? He reminds us with the
things we like or have interest in such as, sports, TV, games, to meet friends
and other interesting things so; we lose focus on Salah and forget that we are
praying to Allah.

Q-1: What did Bilal do wrong in his Salah?


Ans: He did not focus on Allah and the words of Salah and he was thinking of
Basketball during prayer.
Q-2: What is the first action we are going to be judged during the Day of
Judgment?
Ans: The first action we will be judged on is our prayer.
Q-3: Explain Khushoo’ and why is it important?
Ans: Khushoo’ is when a person’s heart and thoughts are humble and focused on
Allah. It is important because, without it our Salah and other forms of
worship are incomplete and unacceptable.
Q-4: Who promised to try to take away khushoo’ from the believers?
Ans: Shaytan promised to take away khushoo’ during Salah and other forms of
worship from the believers.
Q-5: How can we develop khushoo’ in our Salah? Describe three ways to do that?
Ans: We can develop khushoo’ in our Salah by focusing our heart and thoughts to
Allah. Three ways we can achieve this is:

 Understanding what we are saying while we are praying


 Being in a calm place with no distractions.
 Praying while we are in a state of relaxation.

Exercise-1

Next to each picture write “khushoo” if the picture shows khushoo, and write “no
Khushoo” if the picture shows no khushoo.

Q-1: Do you think you pray with khushoo or without khushoo? Explain.
If you died right now, do you think your prayer will earn you a high place in
Jannah or not?

 I have performed my prayers with khushoo


 I remember still what I read in Salah.
 I was completely attentive towards Allah.
 I hope Allah will send me to paradise.

Exercise-3:

1) We should leave aside the entire work before starting Salah.


2) As soon as we hear Azan, we should make Wudoo.
3) We should start for the Mosque and pray with Iman and Ikhlas.

‫ّومّنّنّفّسّّلَّّّشّبّع‬,ّ‫ّومّنّّقّلّبّّلَّّّخّشّع‬,ّ‫اللّهمّّإّنّيّأّعّوذبّكّّمّنّعّلّمّلَّّّنفّع‬
‫وّمّنّدّعّوّةّلَّّّسّتّجّابّّلّهّا‬
English:
O’ Allah I seek your protection from useless knowledge, a heart without
Khushoo, a body that doesn’t get satisfaction and a du’aa’ that you don’t
answer.

Exercise 5

Q-1: Write a story about Khushoo.


Ans: Khushoo means to pray to Allah from the depth of our heart with full
attention, knowing the meaning of what we are reciting in Salah.

Story:
Once a boy who was playing game outside the house. The prayer time
came, but he didn’t care for it. It was about to finish. When his mother
called him. He missed out many steps while doing Wudoo in great hurry.
Likewise, he skipped and forgot what he recited in Salah, because his mind
was totally occupied with the game he was playing before.
Hadeeth Shareef

Arabic

:‫ سمعت رسول هللا صلى هللا عليه وسلم‬:‫عن عثمان بن عفان رضي هللا عنه قال‬
‫"ما من امريء مسلم تحضره صالة مكتوبة فيحسن وضوءها وخشوعها وركوعها‬
‫ ما لم يؤت كبيرة وذلك الدهر‬, ‫إال كانت كفارة لما قبلها من الذنوب‬
‫رواه مسلم‬

English
Uthman Ibn Affan (R.A) narrated that he heard Rasoolullah (S.A.W) saying:
Any Muslim who observes an obligatory prayer perfecting the wudoo;
the khushoo’ and the rukoo, Allah will forgive his or her sins, except
Al-Kabir, or the major sins and that is forever. (Reported in Muslim)
