Literacy Standard: Reading

1. What are your learning target(s) for first quarter?


a. Knowing parts of speech
b. To be able to understand short sentences, vocabulary and grammar
c. Conversational dialog
d. Have students feel more comfortable reading

2. Brainstorm/create/ build possible assessments that meet each learning target


a. Cloze reading assessment (identify cognates) – use songs or paragraphs
b. Put pictures in order that they occurred in story

3. How will students show mastery in each learning target?


- Answer short questions
- Fill in Cloze activity
- Identify topic sentences

1. What are your learning target(s) for first quarter?

a. Reading a short story and understanding it; answering comprehension questions


b. Summarize and express opinions
c. Analyze text and paraphrasing

2. Brainstorm/create/ build possible assessments that meet each learning target


a. Traveling sentences – students are put into groups, they memorize text and then dictate
it to another group.
b. Answering compression questions and expressing opinions based on a short reading
c. Dramatize a short story
d. Comic books/story strips

3. How will students show mastery in each learning target?


- Write in a journal or a reflective paragraph
- Group project that shows understanding of reading (ie: story board or skit)

Literacy Standard: Reading

1. What are your learning target(s) for first quarter?


a. Read, write, listen and present on every aspect of culture
b. Interpret, analyze, make inferences and interpret articles

2. Brainstorm/create/ build possible assessments that meet each learning target


a. Read an article as a group then they answer questions in a group. Students have an in
depth conversation about the article. Teacher uses this as a formative assessment.
b. Students read an article about something controversial; students then find their own
article that focuses on their point of view; students then debate both sides.

3. How will students show mastery in each learning target?

Students are able to effectively communicate using all modes of communication.

Students can debate, compare/contrast, and show empathy and understanding.

Students successfully pass the AP exam.
