Re.: Comprehensive offer for marketing & advertising across the Times of India Group

Dear Mr Loya,

We refer to the meetings we had in connection with the above. We are keen to work with you
in popularising & communicating the message of the Bhagvad Gita & Lord Krishna. We feel
that the various media platforms available across Bennett, Coleman & Company Limited
(BCCL) will be very useful to you in creating more awareness around these two subjects. We
feel that an outlay of approx. Rs. 500 crs should be committed by you to be spent across our
Groups’ media platforms. This amount can be the total budget for the next 12 months. The
individual components and spends will be decided for each quarter based on the individual
media & content plans as agreed and approved by you.

To kick start this project, we are forming a cross functional team internally that will understand
the 2 subjects (above) in more detail. As offered by you, we will need to sit with your experts
for a few meetings and understand these 2 matters in much more detail. After that we will
brainstorm content ideas which will be presented to you in the next few weeks. As good faith,
we expect you to please kindly place a small token amount (Rs. 5 crs) as an advance fee for
us to start this project internally. I will discuss the commercial details with you about co
ordination etc once we finalise our arrangements. This offer is subject to execution of detailed
contracts between our legal entities.

In the enclosed Annexure, you will see a detail breakup of the various group properties and
how we can use them – this is a very initial list of potential ideas and needs to be detailed
with specific inputs from you on what are your priorities. We have tried to outline a few
potential ideas for each media platform.
We are keen to start this project at the earliest since a lot of research work needs to be done
across our group and we need to ensure that we are ready to engage deeply with you with a
high level of creativity. We are confident that working with you, we will be able to come up with
numerous ideas that will help spread the message on the 2 subjects emphatically.

We look forward to working on building a strong & impact full storyline on the Bhagvad Gita &
Lord Krishna across the larger Indian community.

ANNEXURE – BCCL Group platforms

content & marketing solutions through its portfolio of businesses.
In furtherance to our discussions, we have enclosed a brief description of the Group’s media
offerings.
I. Publishing:
A. Newspapers:
o 15 newspapers including four highest circulated dailies – TOI, ET, Mumbai Mirror,
Vijay Karnataka
o The Times of India (TOI), India’s largest and world’s second largest English-
language daily has more than seven million daily readerships
o The Economic Times (ET), India's largest financial daily, and the world's second
largest in terms of circulation after The Wall Street Journal. Also published in Hindi
and Gujarati
o Regional dailies including Navbharat Times (Hindi), Maharashtra Times (Marathi),
Vijay Karnataka (Kannada), Ei Samay (Bengali)
o Other Titles: Mirror (four editions), ET Wealth, The Speaking Tree
Potential Idea: we will use the newspapers (especially the Speaking Tree,
Navbharat Times, etc) to create awareness and continuing visibility. We could
also release special supplements on the 2 subjects curated and customized with
research inputs

B. Magazines:
BCCL formed Worldwide Media Limited (WWM) to publish magazines in India. Today,
WWM has an enviable bouquet of brands & magazines in its roster ranging from Indian
favourites to international bestsellers.

Magazine portfolio includes 2 B2B titles and 13 consumer magazines including


Femina, Filmfare, Hello!, Grazia, Top Gear, Good Homes, Lonely Planet.
Potential Idea: we will use select magazine brands to create awareness and
continuing visibility. We could also publish focussed magazines on the 2
subjects curated and customized with research inputs
C. Times Books:
More than 400 titles on catalogue with key focus on food, city & travel, spirituality and
business genres. TGB books and guides not only act as powerful brand extensions
but are also changing traditional book publishing paradigm by bringing in sponsors and
advertisers and by marketing of books:
o Times Food Guide
o Compilations: some of the key titles include Best of Speaking Tree, Best of Sacred
Space, ET in the Classroom
Potential Idea: We can publish special & focussed titles on the 2 subjects
curated and customized with research inputs

II. Television:
Times Network (TN) with its bouquet of 12 channels has an annual reach of ~129 Mn
individuals (All India 2+ yrs.)
o Times NOW: Within two years of its launch in January 2006, Times NOW became
the leader in the genre, outrunning its more established rivals & has been leading
continuously ever since
o ET NOW: With its formidable team of anchors and analysts brings the biggest
market-moving stories, news, views and analysis from markets, business and
economy
o Mirror NOW: Civic news channel
o Entertainment: Movies NOW & Romedy NOW (English movies and
entertainment), ZoOm (lifestyle)
Potential Idea: we will script and produce original TV Series on these 2
subjects – these could be Fictionalised OR just Documentary formats

III. Radio:
India’s largest private FM Radio operator– both in terms of number of operational stations
(+50 stations across +40 towns) and revenue. As a brand, Radio Mirchi has excelled in
providing entertainment music with a huge listenership of over 130 mn. spanning across
Indian subcontinent.
Potential Idea: we will use the massive each of the Radio network with special
programs focussed on these 2 subjects curated and customized with research
inputs

IV. Outdoor Media:


Times Innovative Media Limited (TIML), is engaged in the core business of out-of-home
displays – billboards, displays, banners, sign-boards, kiosks, bus-shelters and digital
solutions, under the brand name of Times OOH. With a pan-India footprint, it operates from
major cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad etc. Some of the
prime properties it manages/co-manages are the two largest airports in India at Delhi and
Mumbai, Delhi Metro (blue line), Mumbai Metro.
Potential Idea: we will use our Hoardings & BillBoards for creating awareness and
continuing visibility on the 2 subjects
V. Conferences:

Functional under the brand name ET Edge, it strives to bring together visionaries and key
leaders on its knowledge platforms to create social and business ecology, conducive to the
positive changes required by the industry. The main aim is to channel global business
intelligence through summits and conferences in overarching lectures, hands-on
workshops, panels, roundtables and case studies.

Key events: Global Business Summit (India), Global Sports Business Show (India), Asian
Business Leaders Conclave (Malaysia), India – UAE Bilateral Summit (UAE), Architecture
& Design Summit (India), Femina India Wedding Show (London) & The India Leadership
Council (Membership Networking Platform)
Potential Idea: we can create global & local Conferences with distinguished guests and
speakers (focussed on the 2 subjects). These Conferences can be broadcast and also
shown on digital platforms

VI. Events:

The Group hosts many events across various sectors to honour personalities/celebrities for
excellence in their respective field/industry including Filmfare Awards, The Economic Times
Awards for Corporate Excellence, Mirchi Music Awards, Femina Miss India, TOIFA Awards
(Global)
Potential Idea: we can create global & local Events/ Exhibitions/ Historical walk-
throughs (experiential) focussed on the 2 subjects. These can be broadcast and also
shown on digital platforms

VII. Film Content:


Times Group’s entry into the film industry through Junglee Pictures is a natural progression
towards creating and owning IPR. Junglee Pictures leverages the Group’s network
capabilities in amplifying and positioning the content across channels. Over the longer run,
it envisions to ddevelop in-house creative capabilities, promoting incubation and
development of proven content and/or research on evolving audience trends. Movie
Releases - Dil Dhadakne Do, Talvar, Bareilly Ki Barfi with three upcoming movies in the
current year
Potential Idea: we can create film content (long format feature films & also short films
focussed on the 2 subjects. These Films can be released in theatres, broadcast and
also shown on digital platforms
VIII. Music:

Times Music has made a niche for itself in non-film music content and has started
acquiring film music rights. With more than 4,300 music releases it has a catalogue size
of 49,000 audio tracks and 5,000 music videos. Best known albums - The Golden Raaga
Collection, Gayatri Mantra, Himalayan Chants and Hanuman Chalisa.
Potential Idea: we can create global & local music content with distinguished musicians
& artistes and also host music concerts focussed on the 2 subjects. These Shows can
be broadcast and also shown on digital platforms

IX. Digital:
The digital venture of the group, Times Internet is the largest Indian Internet Network with
one of the fastest growing web/mobile based networks worldwide. It reaches over 232
million unique visitors a month who collectively account for 10.4 billion-page views and
10.0 billion minutes spent across web and mobile, with businesses across news,
entertainment, sports, local, ecommerce, classifieds, start-up investments, local
partnerships, and more. It has a diversified set of 35+ digital consumer-facing businesses.
Further, through licensing partnerships/acquisitions/investments, TIL also helps global
organizations to expand their reach in India using its online media platforms.
Potential Idea: we can create original Fictional & Documentary type content for
consumption. This is the biggest platform in the group and can be used for massive
distribution and access

X. Digital Content Creation:

With the growing demand for video content, BCCL has forayed into development of digital
content through Times Studio. With its network of well-known creative talent, Times Studio
will develop and produce high quality digital content for OTT platforms and Brands.

In addition, Times Studio shall also leverage the existing Group platforms for augmenting
the audience reach, while offering video solution to Brands/ 3rd party
Potential Idea: this team will be responsible for the Digital Video ideation and
production of Web based content
