The iuxury of outdoor ight ng can become a part

of everyone's llfe thanks to the innovation o{ low
a
voltage systems, 12 volt systems are much less
expensive than the standard voltage systems pri-
marily because they are so easy to install. The
low voltage cab le can be run on top ofthe ground
or buried, whlch e irninates the need for conduit.
It also permits the use of pin type connectors,
which eliminates th€ need for wlre splic ng.
Besides these features, a low voltage system is
more efficlent in lig ht outp ut, and h as g reat flexi

adapt to the changing, growing landscape.
One of ihe outstanding features of the Klm low voltage
Kim's low voLtage system offers al

advantages plus the added Kim exclusives that three basic cornponents adapt to all the up lights,

must not exceed the rating of the transformer, The min mum wattage should be at least half of the
transformer rating. lf the total wattage exceeds '126 watts, e ther two K m 126 watt transformers can
be used or one 300 watt transforrner with two cables. The 3OO watt transformer is always used w th
two I00' cab es,
TFIANSFOFMEFI PLACEMENT
The transformer must be mounted at east 12" above the ground and wlth n 6'of 110/120 volt recep-
tacles. The transformers come complete wlth mounting brackets and can be mounted on the side of
the building or inside a garage, lf outlets are in the garden, a mountlng board can be made to give
ample ground clearance, Al transformers are weatherproof and come with complete instructions
for mou nt ng.

PL,ACEMENT OF FIXTUF]ES ON 12V CAE}LE

You should not exceed 126 watts on the 12V cable, or large voltage drops w I occur, lt is permissible
to go 100' in each direction from the transformer, or a tota of 200', however, the wattage shou d not
exceed the transformer rating. The wattage should be divided equaLly between the two 100' lengths
of cable. Whenever possible, there should be a min mum af 2A' of 12 volt cable between the first
fixture and the transformer. This will give a better voltage balance to the system, When using the
300 watt transformer, it is permissible to place up to 126 watts on each 100' cable or a total of 252 watts.

LAMFJS AND LAMF) LIFF

The characterlstics o{ a 12 volt system requ res that any lamp that burns out within the system be
replaced immediately or t wi I resu t in premature burn out for the balance of the amps. lt s
recommended that one or two spares of each type of amp be kept on hand,

There are various types and wattages of lamps that can be used with the up lights, When us ng over
1B watts, it requ res the removal of the ens, or the addition oJ a sh eld and ens ho der, Lf the amps
used are over 25 watts, the lens should be omitted, (See page f16.) lf larger wattages are used, be
certain that you are not overloading the system.
