Classification
• Centrifugal compressors can be further divided:

 Single- Stage : Compress the gas once through single impeller/blade

 Selected for higher gas flow rates, lower discharge pressures

 Multi- Stage : The discharge of preceding stage’s impeller acts as suction to

the next stage’s impeller until gas is finally discharged through last stage

 Selected for both high gas flow rates and discharge pressures

• Preferred choice for flow rates exceeding 300 m3/hr

• Discharge temperatures to be limited to < 200 oC due to material and process

issues.
