Dear brother/sister in the Lord,

Ask every camper and he/she will testify with full conviction that the recently concluded FCM
Camp 2006 has been a most blessed one. To those who were unable to attend the camp, do
not despair. The events and highlights of the camp are succinctly captured in this issue, lovingly
and laboriously put together by God’s children who have been richly blessed by the Lord during
the 6-day stay in Calvary Pandan BP Church. I pray that this issue will ignite your heart in the
Lord as you read and ponder upon the divine goodness and loving-kindness of our heavenly
Father in every aspect of the camp.

To those who were in the camp, I pray that God will warm your heart and draw you closer to
Himself as you reminisce and reflect on the most memorable and wonderful moments of our
short but very sweet fellowship in the Lord.

After reading through this newsletter, one cannot help but attribute all glory and honour to our
most blessed and awesome God who has convicted all campers to yearn for heaven where the
sweet and divine fellowship never ends. Soli DEO Gloria!
FCM CAMP Report
Day 1: Monday 29/5/06 (by Boon Siang)

It’s Day 1 of FCM Camp 2006! A few campers arrived at Calvary Pandan
as early as 8.40am, although check-in time was 9am. The enthusiasm of
these campers is worth commending. By 10am, majority of the campers
had reached and were already chatting away despite only seeing one
another for the first time. After a short briefing by Herbert, the Camp
Master, we had a good time of playing ice breakers. At the end of
icebreaking, everyone knew one another’s name, although there were still
some wrong pronunciations here and there.

After another round of chatting over lunch, we proceeded to message room for our first theme message
“Summon to Fear God & to Fellowship with the Saints.” The main verse for the message is Malachi 3:16-
Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and
a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his
name. Although there was rampant apostasy during Malachi’s days, there was a group of faithful men
who feared the Lord. Two things were mentioned about this group:

1. They ‘spake often one to another.’ This means they were constantly sharing with one another, be
it how God had blessed them or how God was helping them through their Christian struggles.
Indeed, it’s a blessing to be able to share with like-minded brethren. Every FCM Camp has been
filled with in-depth sharing among campers, which edify and encourage one another in the Lord.
We are never alone in this spiritual walk.
2. They ‘thought upon his name.’ To them the name was Jehovah. The fear of the Lord is mentioned
at least 3 times in the book of Malachi alone. Truly, with godly fear of the Lord, we will have
nothing else to fear. For when God is for us, who can be against us?

So what are the necessary characteristics that we must have in our relationship with God?
They are:
1. Correct concept of the character of God. (Exodus 34:6-7)
2. There must be a pervasive sense of the presence of God. (Psalms 139:8)
3. Constant awareness of our accountability to God. (Ecclesiastes 12:13-14)

In conclusion, Rev Jack exhorted all of us to cultivate a holy fear for God and a desire for
fellowship over the next few days of camp. Following the message, the campers were divided
into groups for discussion.

At 4pm, team bonding games were conducted for some

clean fun and laughter. We then washed up and had
dinner. For the night message, Dn Lek Aik Wee spoke
on the topic “Trials of Christian
Life”. 7 ways were mentioned
to fight against temptation.
They are:
1. Actively use your faith directly where the attack is aimed ay you:
Eph 6:16- Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery
darts of the wicked.

2. Actively use the Word of God directly where the

attack is aimed at you:
Eph 6:17- And take the helmet of salvation, and the
sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

3. Actively overcome Satan through the “blood

of the Lamb”:
Heb 9:12- Neither by the blood of goats and calves,
but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption
for us.

4. Overcome temptation through the “word of your testimony”:

Rev 12:11- And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony;
and they loved not their lives unto the death.

5. Actively overcome Satan through “not loving your life to the point of death..”
Rev 12:11- And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony;
and they loved not their lives unto the death.

6. Actively overcome Satan through submitting yourself to God fervently and unconditionally.
James 4:6-7 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth
grace unto the humble. Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from
you.

7. Actively overcome Satan through denying your selfish ambitions and seeking the wisdom of
God which is pure, peaceable and easy to be entreated.
James 3:14-16 But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory
not, and lie not against the truth. This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is
earthly, sensual, devilish. For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and
every evil work.

Day 1 ended with a simple yet delicious supper and a sweet hour of dorm fellowship.
Day 2: Tuesday 30/05/06 (by Beng Wee)

The second day of FCM camp was the first start of many activites for the
camp. Almost everyone woke up promptly for the first 5 BX session of the
FCM camp conducted by Boon Siang. It started off with a warming up
session and after that we were required to run in different formations
around the church compound. We then had our first breakfast prepared by
Esther and Xiao Wei, which consisted of bread, milo and more bread.

Our first morning devotion message

was delivered by Herbert on Ezra 7:10
and we then proceed to have our quiet time in our respective dorms.
The theme message preached by Rev. Jack Sin in the morning was
“The Word and Interpersonal Relationships”, in which the speaker
covered issues on godly friendships and life partners. The theme
message proved to be a hot discussion topic as all the discussion
groups took more than half of the lunch period to talk about the topic.
Many shared on their experience in looking for a life partner, which
have helped to encourage and strengthen one another.

After lunch ended, the Bible quiz commenced at around 1.15 pm. The
Bible Quiz session was divided into 3 parts, which included charades,
picture guessing and Bible quizzes.
Through the Bible quiz and games, the 3 objectives were met, which is
• To provoke FCMers to know more intensively the Word of God
• To encourage the learning of God’s Word as a group
• To humble us in the pursuit of the knowledge of the Bible

Esther Lin led the tracting session in which she gave a short sharing and asked a group of brethren to act
out a skit on what to do or what not to do during evangelism. 2 different skits were acted out, with one
being a bad example of evangelising and the other, the proper way of doing it. We were then divided into
2 groups led by Boon Siang and Herbert respectively. Boon Siang’s team went to Clementi MRT station
and Herbert’s group went to Jurong East MRT station. After the tracting session the groups went for their
dinner and proceeded back to camp to wash up and prepare for prayer meeting.
The prayer meeting started off with singing and reading of Scripture verses
from 2 Chronicles 7:14, Psalms 55:22, Isaiah 55:6-7, Jeremiah 33:3 and 1
Thessalonians 5:17. After which some brethren were asked to pray for specific
items regarding the various needs for the camp. We were then spilt into groups
of 3 to share about our thanksgiving and prayer items and to pray together. The
sharing time was very open and sincere, and every group took more than the
30 minutes allocated to them. Immediately after the prayer meeting was the
combine sharing led by Esther Huang. Everyone took turns to share about their
tracting experience, which includes the difficulties of sharing and how God
has helped them in different ways to overcome their shortcomings. The
combine sharing was very encouraging, and it certainly spurred more people to
evangelise for the Lord. Tuesday ended with more learning of God’s Word,
more prayers and more edifying fellowship. Thank God!

Day 3: Wednesday, 31/05/2006 (by Herbert)

As usual, the campers woke up as the day dawned for another round of exercise - 5BX! This time, led by
Bro. Beng Wee, was a filled with praise to the Lord. We had to run round the church singing “Dwelling in
Beulah Land”! Seems familiar for those been to NS. Nevertheless, it was enjoyable. ☺

Breakfast was sumptuous as always and this was followed by an

exhortation from Bro. Jason Liew. Jason shared from John 14:1-7
and exhorted us to focus our attention to heaven and our Lord Jesus
Christ in times of trouble. Though our trial may be great, our Lord is
greater than our problem. Only the Lord can help us and that is why
He must be the first Person we go to in time of need.

A most precious and needful quiet time with the Lord was next and
the campers absorbed themselves in fellowship with our Saviour.
This was followed by the message “God’s Word and Work/Studies” by Rev Jack Sin. Rev Jack gave us 4
God-centred ”C”s as opposed to the world’s 5 “C”s for students (Certificate, Cash, Computer, Clothes,
Club). They are:
• C ompetent in our work/studies - striving with a spirit of excellence (Dan 1:4, 17, 20)
• C onvictions according to God’s Word - We must make a stand for God (Dan 1:8)
• C ommitment to honour God - Physically, mentally, socially, spiritually (Rom 12:1-2)
• C ontentment in the fear of God always - Beware of covetousness (1 Tim 6:6-10; Col 3:22-24)
Discussions concerning this topic followed and all campers had
such a blessed time that they could not stop! (We need to
allocate more time in future! =) ) We discussed into
lunch time and all campers were totally satisfied
from both the spiritual and physical food.

Up next was the long awaited workshop on “Why

Choose FCM and not other Varsity Fellowship Groups?”
Rev Jack shared that the formation of varsity fellowships
or parachurches had no biblical basis and we should refrain
from joining these groups.
Some reasons are:

1. Parachurches are independent (unlike FCM which is a ministry of Calvary Tengah)

and often become a substitute for the church. People would rather join or serve in these
groups rather than in a church. People tend to turn to these groups when they are
disillusioned with the church.
2. Parachurches are inter-denominational. This ushers in the ecumenical movement as
Christians with all kinds of doctrinal beliefs embrace each other, compromising the Word of
God in the name of love and fellowship.
3. Leaders of parachurches have compromised God’s Word. Leaders like Bill bright (Campus
Crusade for Christ) have embraced the ecumenical movement by signing the “Evangelists and
Catholics Together” (ECT). They regard the Roman Catholics as brethren of the same faith which
is a total fallacy.

For games, we had the FCM’s favourite game,

“Captain’s Ball” and all of us had a most blessed and
enjoyable time, though it seems there is never enough
time =) Thank God for His protection on the campers
as no one was injured or hurt.

After the campers had washed up and had dinner, it

was time for the night message! Dn Lek challenged us
to examine our prayer life and exhorted us to pray
without ceasing. Indeed, “men ought always to pray,
and not to faint” (Luke 18:1). May the Lord help us to
pray and commune with our Lord unceasingly.

Instead of dorm sharing, the campers watched the video “Pamela’s Prayer”. This is indeed a most timely
and needful video. The campers are challenged to honour the Lord in their relationship with the opposite
sex by waiting patiently on the Lord and upholding purity with each other. May the Lord help us to do so
and to flee from any temptation and act that dishonours Him!
Day 4: Thursday 1/6/06 (by Xiao Wei)

We arose as per normal to a bright new day at 6:45am. Following that, we had 5BX led by our
brother Clement who mercifully led the campers with light stretching and some jumping jacks.
Breakfast of cereal with milk (and Milo), and bread with spreads were served, much to the
delight of campers who had been eating the same thing for the past two mornings. Then, Bro
Clement shared with us on Joshua 1:9. He encouraged us to “Be strong and of a good courage”,
a commandment given by God many times in the book of Joshua. We are to be strong and of a
good courage as we stand firm on God’s Word and defend our faith. After the devotion, we
proceeded to spend our quiet time alone with God.

For our theme message, Rev Dr Jack Sin spoke to us on “God’s Will and the Word”. How do we make
decisions in our lives? Do we seek God and see what His Word has to say about things or do we simply
ask for human advice and that’s it? We learnt that God has a specific plan for our lives and in discovering
God’s will, we are to (1) Lean not on our own understanding and (2) Acknowledge Him and He shall
direct our paths (Proverbs 3:5-6). Rev Dr Jack Sin also gave us 5 “C”s in finding out God’s Will for our
lives.

1. Consult the Scriptures

2. Commune with God in prayer
3. Consider the circumstances
4. Connect with others
5. Consecrate your heart (peace).

He also pointed out to us Psalm 25: 4-5 “ Shew me thy

ways, O LORD; teach me thy paths. Lead me in thy truth,
and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee
do I wait all the day.” We are to ask God to instruct us and
guide us in the way we should go, and we should never run
ahead of Him. Rather, let us be patient and wait on the Lord
for He makes all things beautiful in His time.

After lunch, the campers split into their various FCM groups to pray, share and plan for the upcoming
semester. We then watched a creation science video on “The Age of the Earth”. Initially, there was
trouble setting up the sound speakers for the video, but we thank God for His providence and grace in
solving this problem. While we waited for the speakers to be set up, the campers enjoyed a time of
singing. Ultimately, we managed to watch the video and had a good time of discussion after it. The video
and discussion taught us that evolution is a religion and not a science as it takes faith to believe in
evolution too. When schools/people teach evolution, they are actually saying that “There is no God.”
Hence, there is no fear of the Lord and many will lead their lives in a godless manner. We also learnt that
“Theistic Evolution” is just a way people use to try to please man by mixing the world’s view of
evolution with what the Bible teaches about creation. A Christian cannot believe in “Theistic Evolution”.
To people who believe in evolution, we should refrain from excessive argument if they are not receptive
to what God’s Word says about creation. Rather, we should just preach the Gospel to them and let the
Holy Spirit work in their hearts. God-willing, they may be saved.

After dinner, it is time for our night message. Dn Lek Aik Wee spoke to us on “Psalm 119 – Reigniting
the love for God’s Word”. He did not go through Psalm 119, but he shared from Hebrews 1:1-4 to prepare
our hearts to read Psalm 119. He reminded us that God has spoken to us through His Son and through His
Word. We then presented Dn Lek with a love gift and had a photo taking session. We ended the day with
a light supper and a most blessed time of dorm fellowship. Praise God! :)
Day 5: Friday 2/6/06 (by Esther)

In a blink of an eye, we had reached the last day of the camp. The last 5
BX, led by Brother Beng Wee, was met with much more enthusiasm and
vigor. We were then treated to a hearty breakfast of hard boiled eggs,
biscuit and bread with spreads.

During morning devotion, Brother Nelson exhorted on Psalm 1. He gave

an analogy: Like a lion prowling for its prey undistracted, do we take
time to read God’s Word undistracted till we have our fill? He also
put forth salient questions in relation to Psalm 1:1 - Blessed is the man
that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of
sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful - “What does it take for us
to delight in the chief pursuit of the law of the Lord? Can we describe ourselves to be one that is
blessed? To be one that mediates upon God’s Word day and night?”

He also posed us a question in relation to Psalm 1:4 - The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which
the wind driveth away - “Does the ungodly characterise you? How do you define your relationship
with God? Is God’s Word with you or in you?” With these pertinent and sobering questions in mind, we
adjourned for our Quiet Time thereafter.

For our main message, Rev Dr Jack Sin summed up our theme messages in the final topic “The Study of
God’s Word”.

He summarised our stand on God’s Word in a nutshell:

1) Authority (Supreme power of the Word of God)
2) Sufficiency (Canon is complete & closed. Rev 22:18,19 - For I testify unto every man that
heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall
add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the
words of the book of this prophecy, God shall
take away his part out of the book of life, and out
of the holy city, and from the things which
are written in this book.)
3) Inerrancy (No mistakes; Word of God is infallible)
4) Perspicuity (Word of God is clear)
5) Preservation (We are not to be ashamed of the
Word of God)
6) Inspiration (II Tim 3:16 - All scripture is given
by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine,
for reproof, for correction, for instruction
in righteousness)
7) Canonisation (Rule that the Word of God has 66 books; no more, no less)

We covered different analogies of the Word of God such as:

1) Jeremiah 20:9 – Fire

• Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in
his name. But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in
my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay.
⇒ The Word of God cannot be put off or held back.
2) Hebrews 4:12 – Sword
• For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any
twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and
spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts
and intents of the heart.
⇒ The Word of God is able to bring out the distinctive nature of the heart
of man.
⇒ The focus in this verse is on the “sharpness” of the sword, which is
always effective, never failing to accomplish its effectiveness. In the
same vein, the Bible will never fail to win any battle.

3) Hebews 5:12-14 – Milk, Meat

• For when for the time ye ought to be teachers,
ye have need that one teach you again which be
the first principles of the oracles of God; and
are become such as have need of milk, and not
of strong meat. For every one that useth milk
is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is
a babe. But strong meat belongeth to them that are
of full age, even those who by reason of use have their
senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
⇒ The Word of God caters to all Christians, whether young or old. There should be a desire to
grow in the understanding and application of God’s Word.

4) Psalm 119:105 – Light, Lamp

• Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
⇒ Understanding of The Word of God guides us in times of darkness.

5) Jeremiah 15:16 – Joy

• Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me
the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O
LORD God of hosts.
⇒ The Word of God is a source of spiritual joy and nourishment when we
learn to be disciplined and diligent in the meditation and study of God’s
Word.

We also learnt how to apply our theme verse, Ezra 7:10 - For Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the law
of the Lord, and to do it, and to teach in Israel statutes and judgments. Similarly, we should always
prepare our hearts to be void of any external or internal distractions; to seek the will of the Lord
wholeheartedly in prayer. In addition, we should also cultivate our discipline to meditate on God’s
Word all the time (Psalm 119:20), not forgetting to teach others also.

In terms of how to apply the Sword of the Word in times of temptations and testings, we learnt from
Psalm 10:17 - LORD, thou hast heard the desire of the humble: thou wilt prepare their heart, thou wilt
cause thine ear to hear, where we are to remember that faith cometh by hearing by the preaching of
God’s Word. Other reference verses include Eph 6:10-18; Matt 4:1-11.
Practical tips on devotional Bible study were also covered:
1) Observation – LOOK
2) Interpretation – BOOK
• Within the context (Grammatical, historical, cultural/social, geographical)
• Genre (Narration? Poetic? Prophetic?)
3) Application – TOOK
• Do it! Do not just read (James 1:22 - But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers
only, deceiving your own selves.)

After a fruitful discussion and a scrumptious lunch of fried kway teow and chicken wings, we broke
off into our individual groups to prepare for our special items. The special item session included a myriad
of genres – FCM Camp Unforgettable Moments; The Prodigal Lamb puppet show; The Prodigal
“Toot”; How God’s Word is so precious; A Day in the life of Charlene. Though many groups did
not have time to prepare their special item, the Lord is always gracious, and all of us learnt many
precious spiritual lessons in this fun-filled session.

Following this, we dived straight into the cooking

competition. Teams were each given $20 to buy ingredients
from supermarkets in the surrounding vicinity. The judging
criteria were on presentation, taste, creativity and hygiene.
Bonus points were allocated for teamwork. Teams conjured
up dishes based on 4 different themes - “7 years of plenty”;
“Fruits of the Spirit”; “12 tribes of Israel”; “Plagues of
Egypt”. When judgment time arrived, each team presented
the spiritual context
of the dishes to our
3 honorable judges,
Rev Ronny Khoo, Elder Boaz Boon and Bro. Lingkang. The
camp com also presented “Flesh & Bread from Heaven”
in a “musical” accompanied with a modified rendition
of the hymn “Dwelling in Beu-lah Land”. After much
deliberation, our judges announced “Fruits of the Spirit” as the
grand winner. We then had sweet fellowship over a
“magnificent feast.”

After cleanup, we proceeded on to a short “Guess Who” Game, after which, was sharing and testimony
time. It was a most blessed time of sharing. Many shared as the Lord leadeth. Some shared that fellowship
in FCM was like “heaven on earth” and they learnt much from one another how to be more forgiving and
Christ-like. Many also shared that they learnt many precious lessons from the messages, the importance
of prayer and how important it is to always wait upon the Lord. Most importantly, it was also shared that
many learnt from one another how to be more forthcoming and be meek in service, and how crucial it is
to remember always to seek the Lord even after camp.

We ended the long night with a video & picture slide show which drew back many sweet memories for
the past 5 days. After this, some adjourned for bed whilst the more “active” ones proceeded to the
fellowship hall for more supper & sweet fellowship!
Day 6: Saturday 3/6/06 (by David)

Thanks be to GOD for all things. Even though most of us did

not sleep sufficiently, the LORD has been gracious to provide
us with the energy and the spirit to persevere. Even though
some of us were affected by sickness, we were able to help one
another, and show God’s love through us. Indeed, it is when
we’re weak that God’s strength is more manifested.
On the last night of our camp, most of the campers slept
rather late (after 3am) and it was amazing that we were able to
wake up by 8.30am. As for me, I never intended to sleep, but
thanks to God, I managed to sleep from 7am to 8.30am, which granted me sufficient energy for the day
(Looking back, I thank GOD for the much needed rest as I went for my YF outing till 10pm). After
waking up, I realised that most of the campers have already awoken. I prayed for the Lord’s guidance for
the day and went to wash up and go for breakfast.
At the breakfast table, I heard that Lingkang had gone to buy breakfast and I was glad because
there was time for us to clean up the rooms that we used during the camp. Most of the campers went to
clean up their dorms, so I decided to look at the rooms we used. While I was going through the rooms that
we used, picking up litter, some campers came to the JW sanctuary to tidy up the pews, and went on to
the Mandarin Sunset room to arrange the tables and chairs. After these two rooms were done, I went to
the cryroom (which we used on Wed night) and was quite amazed at the cleanliness of the room and the
tidiness of the chairs. I wondered if another group had already been through this room.
Another interesting thing was regarding the mattresses. After checking the cryroom, I noticed that
the mattresses from the female dorms (level 3) have been moved away while the mattresses from the male
dorms (level 4) remained. I asked one of the female campers and was informed that the mattresses from
the female dorms were moved to level 4. After that, I met Bro. Anthony and asked him where we should
place the mattresses to which he replied that we should keep them at level 4. I was rather glad and amazed
at this.
Truly, cleaning up can be enjoyable and smooth sailing. All thanks to God for everything, even
for the pleasant service in the FCM camp committee.

Special Item 1: “Unforgettable Moments”

Group members: David, Boon Siang, Andrew and Mabel

Our group (David, Boon Siang, Andrew and me) did not come up with a title of the special item to be
presented. However, since we sought to bring out the essence of the FCM camp by capturing little
moments that would put smiles on people’s faces whenever they thought of it, it can be titled
“Unforgettable Moments”.

The initial preparation met with much inertia as the four of us struggled to come up with an idea. David
then came up with a general structure of how we could do it. It was a simple, straightforward one –
camper A meets non-camper B and A tells B what he learnt in the camp – but this sufficed.
We then beefed it up by adding appropriate dialogues and songs but it did not seem
to work out. After a few more attempts over a couple of days to salvage our dry plot, we
decided not to invent our own lines but re-enact jokes that sprang up during the camp. From
then on, contributions flowed spontaneously. It was an enjoyment to recount those
hilarious moments that tickled our funny bones. Thank God for such simple joy.

There was a scene where Esther Huang went ‘marketing’ for breakfast and
came across a cereal labelled “Banana Nut Crunch”. Due to the fanciful
lettering, she innocently misread it as “Banana Not Crunchy” which got the
whole group of fellow food i/cs to burst out laughing. Of course, as that box
of cereal got passed around the breakfast table, the little joke went around
too.

Then, there was the first ‘joke-of-the-day’ for the campers who just checked-
in that morning. To a gathering of apprehensive young people (actors: David,
Andrew and Mabel), Boon Siang (casting as himself), the assistant camp
master asked “Hey, are you all feeling cold?” After an awkward silence and
turning of heads, he replied “You should be, cos’ we haven’t broken the ice!”
Haha. That sure helped. (Note: This re-enactment got the audience to laugh
real hard, especially with the aid of a “Please Laugh” sign. Grinz.)

Lastly, there was Boon Siang (again) scurrying over to the food i/cs who were preparing for dinner, with a
concerned expression saying, “Oh look! There’s a newcomer! Do you think we’ve enough food?” The
food i/cs (actors: Andrew and Mabel) turned to see who he was pointing at and exclaimed “That’s Dn
Lek!” (actor: David). I do hope that our night message speaker did not notice that little commotion over
the dinner table.

After recounting the fun bits of the camp, camper A moved on to

the serious part where he told non-camper B what he learnt. The
theme message brought across was based on Dr Rev Jack Sin’s
favourite verse, Ezra 7:10 “For Ezra had prepared his heart to
seek the law of the LORD, and to do it, and to teach in Israel
statutes and judgments.” To prove to the non-camper that all
campers can recite this verse by heart, he challenged him to pick
anyone from the audience to recite it. Following a deliberate
hesitation, he picked Herbert (the camp master a.k.a. Sabo King
who would get individuals to recite this verse aloud by heart
before every meal) and Herbert did a perfect job. This was
concluded by hymn-singing, “Thy Word have I Hid in my Heart”
and “Take my Life and Let it Be”, whose lyrics aptly expressed
what we learnt. We are to keep God’s Word close to our heart via
studying his Word (1Tim 4:13-6) and to surrender our all to God.

Thank God for the smooth-running of this short act. Thank God also for the sweet times of fellowship
we shared while discussing, rehearsing and preparing props. May our special item help campers
reminisce delightful times together and also, beckon many others to look forward to FCM Camp
2007!
Special Item 2: The Prodigal Sheep
Group members: Beng Wee, Nancy, Debbie, Jie Kai and Esther (Lin)

Our wonderful team comprised Beng Wee, Nancy, Debbie, Jie Kai and Esther (Lin). In a
span of five busy days, we managed to put together a puppet show entitled, "The Prodigal
Sheep". This was adaptation of the parable "The Prodigal Son" from Luke 15: 11-32.

In this presentation, the sheep (whose name was Mary) that was originally under the care
of "King Emmanuel", a noble king, decided to leave the kingdom due to persuasion
from Mr S.A Tan, who claimed that the grass was definitely greener on the
other side. He made Mary doubt King Emmanuel's words, just like how
Satan in the form of the serpent misled Eve by claiming "Yea, hath God
said?". In the process of running away, Mary made some "f(r)iends",
and as a result, picked up several bad vices and habits, having (her)
"conscience seared with a hot iron" (1 Tim 4:2). Unknown to her, Mr S.A
Tan was actually planning to mislead her so that she would fall prey to the
Master Guru (who is a lion), who wanted to eat her up. Master Guru was "as a
roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:" (1 Peter 5:8).

At this crucial point of time, Mary called out to King Emmanual in desperation, hoping
that He would save her: "Make haste, O God, to deliver me; make haste to help me, O
LORD." (Psalms 70:1). King Emmanuel, faithful to his promise that "(He is) the good
shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep" (John 10:11) came to the
rescue!

The storyline, though simple, provided many lessons that we can all learn from. Just
like it is said in Psalm 23, the Lord is always faithful to "lead (us back) to the path of
righteousness, for His name's sake". Moreover, we have realised how we must always
be alert and ready to resist and flee from the wiles of the devil and not take God's
goodness as granted. Our team had a most hilarious time trying out the puppets and
coming up with suitable accents and personalities for each character. It was certainly a
sweet time of fellowship as we prepared for this special item. We hope that this
presentation has blessed those who viewed our performance as much as we have been blessed!

Special Item 3: The Prodigal Toot

Group members: Herbert, Esther (Huang), Yuheng, Zheqian and Clarice.

Despite the little time we had, we still pulled through and successfully rehearsed our musical. The title of
our special item was actually thought of only after we had presented our musical.

Scene 1. Toot was a nerd. Not implying that nerds are bad, but in this skit, the group of friends Toot had
in his Youth Fellowship group, were very cliquish. Whenever Toot tried to involve himself in one of their
conversations, they would isolate him and to a certain extent, ignore him. Very upset, Toot went to the
toilet to sit down and think about things. In the toilet, Toot overheard his friends talking about how
difficult it was to converse with him. He was then reminded of God’s grace and herein came our first
song, “God will take care of you”.

Scene 2. Toot chaired a YF meeting. After having done so successfully, he was overjoyed. Our
next song “Little by Little”, was sung while birds flew around Toot’s head. Shortly after that, Toot
lead a group discussion. Again, overjoyed with this success, the group then presented an item to
the song “Blessed be The Name”.
Scene 3. Toot went tracting and met with some hooligans (Bad Guys).
They invited him to go clubbing and pubbing. Toot did so at first, only
with the intention of reaching out to them. However, he soon became
one of them. Whilst making the decision on whether to go, the song
“Yield not to Temptation” was sung. Sadly, Toot decided to join the
hooligans in their shenanigans. While Toot went to the restroom, his
hooligan friends spiked his drink. When Toot came back, he drank the
spiked drink and danced till he collapsed onto the ground.

Scene 4. Toot laid on his hospital bed. His mother came in, “talked” to Toot. Psalm 1:1-2 “Blessed is the
man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the
seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and
night.” This reminds us that Toot had not been walking in the counsel of the godly, nor standing out of
the way of sinners. And because of this, he ended up in this present state. To end the musical, the
members of the group sung “I wonder have I done my best for Jesus”.

From this musical, we can draw many precious lessons. Psalm 90:12 “So teach us to number our days,
that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.” We should always number our days, look forward to the
coming of our Lord, and do all things pleasing unto him. Also, we know that drinking is wrong, and in
this musical, Toot had done exactly what is deemed wrong. But not forgetting the grace of our Lord Jesus
Christ, “if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all
unrighteousness.” – 1 John 1:9. Dearly beloved, we hope that this musical has been a blessing to those
who have viewed it, as much as it has been for us!

Special Item 5: A Day in the Life of Charlene

Group Members: Nelson, Desmond, Yu Jie, Charlene, Yirong

Our group consists of Nelson, Desmond, Yu Jie, Charlene and Yirong. We

came up with this idea titled “A Day In The Life Of A Christian Student”.
We wanted to show how a Christian student should live her everyday life.
We had five scenes. Scene One showed the student waking up and doing her
morning devotion. Scene Two showed the student trying to share the Gospel
with her friend. Scene Three showed a friend asking for help from the
student. Scene Four showed the student striking a conversation with her
friends. Scene Five showed the student deciding where to go after school.
When the student reached home, she reflected upon the events that had
passed by during the day. Verses came into her mind when she reflected
upon the events that transpired:

Psa 63:1 - <A Psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah.> O
God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry
and thirsty land, where no water is.
This verse came into her mind when she thought about how she had done her devotion. Indeed one
needs to purpose in one’s heart to seriously consider God’s Word and not just do it (devotion) for the
sake of doing it.

Rom 1:16 - For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to
every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
This verse came into her mind when she thought about how she had witnessed to her friend. She
realized she needs to be bold and clear in the presentation of the gospel and not to rush
about doing it.
1 John 3:17-18 - But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his
bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? My little children, let us not love in
word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.
This verse enabled her to understand that she had not really helped her friend who had asked her for
help in his studies. She had only paid lip service. Indeed one needs to translate words into actions in
order to show forth love.

Eph 4:29 - Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth,

but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace
unto the hearers.
The student realised that she had engaged in gossip with her friends
and had not been edifying at all. One needs to be conscious of what
one is saying and put in effort to minister unto others with edifying
words.

Heb 10:24-25 - And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking
the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much
the more, as ye see the day approaching.
The student realised that she had put forth vain excuses for not going to Christian fellowship. One
should not forsake going to Christian fellowship as one needs to be encouraged and to be an
encouragement to others.

These are some of the common situations that a Christian student may face in his or her life. Living a
Christian life is living in the presence of God. The LORD helps us by bringing to remembrance His truth
to our mind by His Spirit. We live by the grace of God. 1Cor 15:10 - But by the grace of God I am what I
am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than
they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.

Indeed we need to labour and the Lord by His grace will enable us to glorify Him. Let us all strive to obey
the Lord, not by our own strength, but by trusting in the Almighty God who will enable us to do so.

Special Item 6: The Bible

Group Members: James, Jason, Xiao Wei

The skit presented was aimed to show how much we ought to treasure
God's Word, our Bible, and how much it means to us. The story starts
with two men at the Timbuktu international airport, the first, a
missionary, as the protagonist, the other an ordinary fellow, both
awaiting their flights. The missionary sits waiting, reading his Bible,
while the other reads the gospel of Judas. As the missionary rushes to
catch his flight, he mistakenly grabs the wrong book off the adjoining
seat and rushes off into the plane. As he tries to witness to a fellow
passenger, he realises to his horror that his Bible is missing. He panics
and rushes off the plane despite the disapproval of the air stewardess. He
forfeits his flight out and spends several agonising moments rushing
around before finding his Bible safe in the hands of his previously awaiting neighbour. The other fellow
then expresses his bewilderment at the missionary missing his flight for the sake of an ordinary Bible.
The story ends as he receives a just answer from the missionary on the significance of that “little book”
in his life - The Bible.
Cooking Item 1: 7 Years of Plenty
Group Members: James, Jiekai, Debbie, Bro Nelson

Based on the 7 years of plenty in Joseph's account

and interpretation of Pharaoh's dream, the dish is
meant as a celebration and thanksgiving item,
representative for each year of providence in Egypt,
culminating on the 7th year, where 7 dishes were
laid before Pharaoh at his banquet. The primary
element in all 7 dishes is simply- egg. The final
eggsperimental food item displays 7 different
eggsciting ways in which eggs might be prepared,
decorated and served. The final array consists of
Steamed Egg, Shredded Egg, Scrambled Egg, Egg sticks, Egg salad, Sauteed
Tomato Egg and an Egg pouch. 66 eggs were used in total (one for each book of
the Bible. Ha. not.) with 4 team members.

Cooking Item 2: “Fruit of the Spirit” – Fruit Salad

Group Members: Yujie, Yirong, Charlene, Huiling, Yu Heng

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace

longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
Meekness, temperance: against such there is
no law.” ~ Galatians 5:22-23
Serving: 25-30 people
Ingredients: 1 watermelon, 5 oranges, 1
packet of Nata De Coco, 5 green apples, 1 can
of peach, 1 can of longan, 3 bananas, a bunch
of grapes, a tub of yogurt

Preparation:
Firstly, cut an opening in the watermelon.
Scoop out the flesh of the watermelon. Next
cut the flesh of the watermelon into small
cubes. Similarly, cut the oranges, green apples, peach and bananas into
cubes. Cut the Logan and grapes into half. Thereafter, place all the fruits
in a mixing bowl and mix the fruits evenly together with the nata de coco
and yogurt. Finally, place the ‘mixed fruits’ into the “empty” water
melon. Chill the watermelon before serving. Upon serving, garnish the
fruit salad with yogurt.
9 aspects to the Fruit of the Spirit
1) Love:
The watermelon represents love. In 1 Cor 13:7, love “Beareth all things,
believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.” The
Watermelon is sturdy in nature. Its hardness (outer skin) depicts
love which beareth, hopeth and endureth all things. The colour of
its flesh is red, which represents love. As the outer skin of the
watermelon is used to contain the other fruits which comprises of
the flesh of the watermelon also, the watermelon (outer skin and
flesh) depicts love which encompasses all.

2) Joy:
The oranges represent joy. The colour of the oranges gives a
sense of warmness, life and zest. The juicy pulp of the oranges
depicts showers of blessing.

3) Peace:
Each nata de coco is uniform in shape and size. The uniform cubes depict us as
Christians, how we remain unchanged and steadfast in the Lord amidst all things
when we place our trust in the Lord Jesus Christ. Despite trials and difficulties,
the peace which passes all understanding in our Lord Jesus Christ, gives us peace
in the ‘midst of a storm.’

4) Longsuffering:
Green apples are sour in nature. Its very nature demands us to
‘bear’ with its sourness. As Christians, in the midst of ‘sour’ or
unpleasant situations, the nature of the green apples teaches us to
deal and endure them. An interesting characteristic of green
apples are that they are more ‘bearable’ after a while because
people get use to its taste. Likewise for us Christians, though we
may face with many ‘sour’ situations, they too are more bearable and enduring
after increasing experiences. This is because, the ‘trying of our faith worketh
patience’ (James 1:3).

5) Gentleness:
Peaches are soft and tender in nature. They depict
gentleness because we have to be gentle as we handle
them.
6) Goodness:
Longans are sweet and pleasant to the taste. Generally, they are well
liked. A unique characteristic is that longans are chewy. The
‘chewiness’ of longans depicts its “goodness” which lasts a long time.

7) Faith:
“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things
not seen.” (Heb 11:1) After blending the fruits together, it is by faith
that the taste turned out well.

8) Meekness:
Bananas are fruits that provide a high level of energy to its consumer. Though
the banana is a common and simple fruit, yet its unassuming nature depicts
meekness (power under control). The banana is soft and easy on the mouth.

9) Temperance:
The grapes purchased are seedless. As seedless grapes are easy and
convenient to be consumed in large amounts, it has to be eaten in moderation. Hence temperance,
which is moderation and self- control, has to be exercised.

Finally, more yogurt is added before serving. This represents ‘the filling of the Holy Spirit’
in our hearts. The Holy Spirit helps us to bear the Fruit of the Spirit. It gives us the grace
to do so.

A grape vine attached to the watermelon. In John 15:5 “I am the vine, ye are the
branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much
fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.” The vine represents our Lord Jesus
Christ. Without the Lord, we cannot bear fruit for Him. As Christians, we have to abide in the Lord in
order to bear much fruit for Him. The grape vine attached has no grapes attached. This is a reminder to us
that we as Christians cannot be ‘barren’ but rather bear much fruit for Christ by abiding in the Lord Jesus
Christ.

All the fruits in the watermelon depict the different aspects of the Fruit of the Spirit. As mentioned earlier,
the watermelon represents love. Love is the most important aspect among the other qualities mentioned.
Thus the watermelon as a whole makes up the Fruit of the Spirit because in 1 Cor 13:13 “And now
abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.” love is the basis of all these
qualities.

“O taste and see that the LORD is good: Blessed is the man that trusteth in Him.” ~ Ps 34:8. May we
trust in the Lord always as we taste the goodness of the Lord, trusting that it is only by the Lord’s grace
that we can manifest the Fruit of the Spirit in our lives.
Cooking Item 3: 12 Tribes of Israel
Group Members: Clarice, Sarah, Tim, Mabel, Serena

Our group decided to prepare a dessert item showing a geographical

map of the tribes of Israel with a mind to ignite the FCMers’ interest in
Bible geography and to edify the hearers, so that they may learn
something more about the geographical positions of the tribes of Israel.

The tribes of Israel consist of the populations arising from all the sons of
Jacob, whom he blessed with inheritance of land (Genesis 49). Joseph
had a double portion of blessing as Jacob blessed his two sons Manasseh
and Ephraim with land. (Genesis 48: 5-6, 15-16, 22). Despite that, it
must be noted that the land was divided by lot and according to the size
of each tribe, which was in accordance with God’s command to the
people in Numbers 26:55-56 and 33: 54.

Our food item shows the 12 tribes of Israel: Asher, Naphtali, Zebulun, Issachar, Gad, Reuben, Manasseh,
Dan, Ephraim and Benjamin, Judah and Simeon. Although there were actually 13 tribes of Israel as Levi
was also a son of Jacob (offspring of Leah), however, the Levites were not given any land as they were to
minister to the people as priests (Joshua 13: 14, 33). Thus people normally refer to the tribes of Israel as
the 12 tribes of Israel.

To create the map of Israel, we wanted to make agar agar as our base and then decorate it. Due to a lack
of time for the agar agar to set, we changed plans and bought chocolate cake rolls instead. The cake was
halved to save money and create more “land”. Hershey chocolate sauce with peanut butter and water was
mixed to create the land surface. After the land was made, we painstakingly marked out the positions of
each tribe using satay sticks. The boundaries of each tribe were drawn using multi-colored tiny spheres
(those that are often used as ice-cream toppings!).

There is a meaning behind each son of Israel (also known as Jacob). To bring this to
remembrance, we decorated the land of each tribe with cake toppings that allude to the
meaning of their names. Asher means “Happy”, as Leah was happy that her maid Zilpah
has borne her another child. So, we decorated that land with a smiley face made from
pokey sticks and M n’ Ms. Naphtali means “Wrestling”, thus it was represented pokey
sticks placed in an “X” formation. Zebulun means “Dwelling” and was represented
by the tiny circular biscuits with colored icing sugar on top (childhood favourites!),
which looked like tents. Issachar means “Hire”, so we used a chocolate which had
gold wrapping paper to represent it as it looked like a gold nugget. Gad means
“Troop”, so it was depicted using “M & M”s placed in a contingent. Reuben means
“See a Son”. Thus we represented it with one Wang Zai biscuit.

For Dan, we made a weighing balance as it means “Judge”.

Ephraim means fruitful, so we placed some fruits on that portion of land. Benjamin
means “son of right hand”, thus we shaped Benjamin such that it looks like the
thumb of a right hand. For us Asians, when a son is born, people will say “good!”.
Raising up the right thumb is a symbol of saying “good!” =) Judah means “Praise”, so
we represented it with the shape of musical notes made from using pokey sticks and
Mn’Ms. Simeon means “Heard”, and it was represented using cashew nuts as they look like the shape of
an ear. Mannaseh means “made forgetful”. So we did not decorate the land given to Manasseh. We
“forgot”!
Thank God for this food competition! Our group members were edified and enriched
through the preparation of this dessert dish, which required much thought, concentration
and knowledge of Bible geography. We hope that everyone who has seen and eaten the
cake were blessed and spurred on to revise their Bible geography!

“Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing
the word of truth.” ~ 2 Timothy 2:15

Cooking Item 4: Plagues of Egypt

Group Members: Esther Lin, Nancy, Desmond, Zheqian, Melvin

On behalf of The Royal Kitchen (our group mane), we introduce to you

our best dish, Plagues of Egypt. From the perspective of the Israelites, we
attempt to commemorate how our God sent the ten plagues unto the land
of Egypt so that the people of Israel were able to make their exodus. Our
main dish is representative of the seventh plague, which is the hailstones
that struck all the land of Egypt. We stuck the fried wantons on satay
sticks to suspend them and create a "raining effect". Exodus 9:23 "And
Moses stretched forth his rod toward heaven: and the LORD sent thunder
and hail, and the fire ran along the ground; and the LORD rained hail
upon the land of Egypt." The chilli sauce on top of the wantons are hence
representative of the fire while the meatballs scattered on the floor of the dish represent the sizzling stones
that have struck the whole land of Egypt.

Besides hailstones, we also attempt to represent the other plagues that the
land of Egypt suffered many many years ago. This is our sweet dish, and as
you can see, the little pool in the middle contains Ribena with watermelon
bits. Ribena symbolises the first plague whereby the river water turned into
blood while the watermelon bits represents the fish that died and caused the
river to stink. The second plague is represented by Freddo, our Cadbury
chocolate frog. These haw balls which are red with white sugar bits on them
look like the boils that appeared on Man and Beast in the sixth plague. The
cuttlefish shreds look like locusts and lice, which are from the third and
eighth plague. Last but not least, dark chocolate represents the ninth plague,
where the land of Egypt was struck with thick darkness for three days.
What is unique about our dish is that all four kinds of tastes are brought out. There are
reasons for doing so. Bitterness reminds us of our 40 years in the wilderness, especially
at the time when we had no water to drink but the bitter water of Marah. Sourness in
taste is brought out in the haw balls, where first cringes at the sourness, but surprisingly detects the
subsequent sweetness. This is very much like our Christian walk in that when God first sends trials into
our lives, our first reaction is often to cringe and frown in despair. Nonetheless, the Lord is always
faithful to reveal His purpose in the trials and soon we are slowly revealed to the perfect purpose of God.
(like how the Israelites were preserved from thirst as the Lord provided 12 wells of water in Elim when
they had nothing but bitter waters of Marah.) Saltiness is to remind us every time we take a bite into the
wanton, of how God calls us to the salt of the earth and we are to lead an active Christian life. Just like
how salt is used to preserve as well as to add flavour, we as Christians also ought to preserve our faith and
to spread the wonderful gospel so that unsaved souls might suddenly realise the wonderful savour of
having Jesus as their Saviour. And finally, the sweetness of taste (found in the chocolate and the Ribena)
is for us to always remember in all circumstances, the sweet blessings of our God! :)

Camp Comm’s Item: Flesh & Bread from Heaven

Camp Com: Herbert, Boon Siang, Beng Wee, Xiaowei, Esther (Huang)

Significance
The dish that the camp committee has prepared is called
“Flesh and Bread from Heaven.” The significance of the
dish is to remember what the Lord did for Israel and how
He provided for them when they were wandering in the
wilderness. The Lord provided them with their physical
needs and He gave them food from heaven, the best there
is. Similarly for us, He will provide for our needs and give
us what is best for us. Hence, we should not complain and
murmur against God. Instead we should be content with
what God has given us and not lust for more. If not, God
may just give in to our wishes and a punishment/judgment may befall us. Also, our Lord refers to the
manna when he calls himself the "true bread from heaven" (John 6:31-35; 48-51). He is also the "hidden
manna" (Rev. 2:17; comp. John 6:49,51).
Manna was given when Israel murmured for bread (Ex 16:2,3), in
answer to prayer (Ps 105:40), through Moses (John 6:31,32), to
exhibit God's glory (Ex 16:7), as a sign of Moses's divine mission
(John 6:30,31), for forty years (Neh 9:21), as a test of obedience (Ex
16:4), to teach that man does not live by bread only (Deu 8:3; Matt
4:4)and to humble and prove Israel (Deu 8:16).

Scripture Reference
Exo 16: 11-15 “And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, I have
heard the murmurings of the children of Israel: speak unto them,
saying, At even ye shall eat flesh, and in the morning ye shall be
filled with bread; and ye shall know that I [am] the LORD your
God. And it came to pass, that at even the quails came up, and
covered the camp: and in the morning the dew lay round about
the host. And when the dew that lay was gone up, behold, upon
the face of the wilderness [there lay] a small round thing, [as]
small as the hoar frost on the ground. And when the children of Israel saw [it], they said one to another, It
[is] manna: for they wist not what it [was]. And Moses said unto them, This [is] the bread which the
LORD hath given you to eat.”

Numbers 11:31-34 “And there went forth a wind from the LORD, and brought quails from the sea, and let
[them] fall by the camp, as it were a day's journey on this side, and as it were a day's journey on the other
side, round about the camp, and as it were two cubits [high] upon the face of the earth. And the people
stood up all that day, and all [that] night, and all the next day, and they gathered the quails: he that
gathered least gathered ten homers: and they spread [them] all abroad for themselves round about the
camp. And while the flesh [was] yet between their teeth, ere it was chewed, the wrath of the LORD was
kindled against the people, and the LORD smote the people with a very great plague. And he called the
name of that place Kibrothhattaavah: because there they buried the people that lusted.”

About Quails
Ex 16:13 “…at even the quails came up, and covered the camp..”
This bird is of the gallinaceous kind [that is, relating to the order
of heavy-bodied, largely terrestrial birds], resembling the red
partridge, but not larger than the turtledove. They are found in
certain seasons in the places through which the Israelites passed,
being migratory birds, and they were probably brought to the
camp by "a wind from the Lord" as on another occasion (Numbers
11:31), and affording a most agreeable and delicate dish.

About Manna
Heb. man-hu, "What is that?" the name given by the Israelites to the food miraculously supplied to them
during their wanderings in the wilderness (Ex. 16:15-35). The name is commonly taken as derived from
_man_, an expression of surprise, "What is it?" but more probably it is derived from _manan_, meaning
"to allot," and hence denoting an "allotment" or a "gift." This "gift" from God is described as "a small
round thing," like the "hoar-frost on the ground," and "like coriander seed," "of the colour of “bdellium,"
and in taste "like wafers made with honey." It was capable of being baked and boiled, ground in mills,
or beaten in a mortar (Ex. 16:23; Num. 11:7) This manna was evidently altogether a
miraculous gift, wholly different from any natural product with which we are
acquainted with, which bears this name. The manna of European
commerce comes chiefly from Calabria and Sicily. It drops from the
twigs of a species of ash during the months of June and July. At night it
is fluid and resembles dew, but in the morning it begins to harden. The
manna of the Sinaitic peninsula is an exudation from the "manna-
tamarisk" tree (Tamarix mannifera), the el-tarfah of the Arabs. This tree
is found at the present day in certain well-watered valleys in the
peninsula of Sinai. The manna with which the people of Israel were fed
for forty years differs in many particulars from all these natural
products.

Ingredients used
The committee decided to use chicken as “quail” and bread as
“manna”. For the chicken, we bought “Karaage chicken” of 2
different flavours (spicy and non-spicy) to cater to different people. We then fried them to golden
brown perfection. For the bread, we bought a roll of french loaf, sliced it wafer thin, and dribbled
honey over it/spread on its round surface.

Arrangement and presentation

We found a basket and lined the inside surface with pandan leaves to signify that it was in the wilderness
that the events took place. We then placed the bread and chicken in a nice natural 'just fallen on the
ground' fashion as mentioned in the Bible. We shredded some carrots and lettuce/cabbage to make the
dish healthier and more pleasant to the eyes and we topped it off with a song presentation.

FCM camp has been an edifying experience. It humbles me and made me realise
how much we need and thirst after God’s Word. The fellowship is wonderful and
sweet. Christian fellowship is totally unlike the world’s. I look forward to the camp
next year and hopefully I can attend as well. – Jie Kai

A group of brethren of like mind,

God’s grace and love He did us bind,
Scriptures revived and made alive,
Sharings, words and fellowship thrive,

Troubles shared and prayers prayed,

Consolation and comfort laid,
Encouragement that flows so free,
Christian love that’s felt and seen.

In weeks to come I’ll think and pray,

Reflecting, thanking, for these few days,
Lessons learnt by the Spirit’s leading,
Spiritual food for a faith that’s growing.

Stanzas and lines could I go on,

Yet simple prose cannot define,
Brothers, sisters of Christ’s one bond,
Fellowship in shade of future diving.
-- James
I thank God for the privilege to serve Him in this FCM
camp. I thank Him for a most dedicated and committed
committee who loves the Lord and is God-motivated when
it comes to serving Him. Each camp committee meeting
was always a blessed time filled with the Lord’s presence -
“Thank you for your service to the Lord. Each and every of
you has been a great blessing to me.”

I thank God also for seeing us through the 6-day camp. Though it
was by no means a short and easy camp to coordinate, God’s
presence was always there with us, giving us wisdom in every
decision and situation, enabling us to please Him to the best we
know how.

The fellowship was (as always) very warm and sweet. One obvious and distinct trend of
FCM camps is that campers are very “automatic”. Instead of sitting down waiting to be
served, campers seek to serve. Questions like, “How can I help?”, “Is there anything I
can do?” frequently ring from the campers and it is always so encouraging to have such
selfless brethren around. Praise the Lord! =)

Once again, I thank God for the privilege to serve Him in this camp. Despite our
sinfulness and imperfection, God still deems fit to allow sinful man like us to do His work.
What a great honour!

See you at FCM Camp 2007! Soli DEO Gloria! –Herbert

Having been blessed in FCM Camp 05 as a camper, I was

even doubly blessed in FCM Camp 06 as a committee
member. All thanks to the living and true God! There are so
many big & small details to look into throughout the 6 day
camp, but God is so gracious to bring everything to pass,
according to plans. Indeed, leaning on the everlasting arms
of the Lord is the best comfort and assurance I can ever get.
At times, I get worried over whether the programmes will turn
out well, but after committing to the Lord in prayer, He
granted great peace that exceeded all understanding. I had
learnt to trust in Him, and I pray that I will continue to seek Him in all my ways. I am also
very thankful to God for such a selfless and committed team of brethren in the
committee. Seeing the tireless efforts & zeal put in by each member really encouraged
my heart.

Feasting on God’s Word day and night had been a wonderful blessing too. Glad to hear
important lessons such as fearing God, building godly relationships, effective
methods of Bible study & victory over the trials of Christian life. Witnessing the
preachers speak with much power and convictions during every message, I
can’t help but marvel at the goodness of God and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit
upon them. May the Lord help each and every camper prepare his/her heart to
continuously seek the Law of the Lord and to do it and to teach others also. It will be
another 12 months before the arrival of FCM Camp 2007. Only God knows what is
before us. Nevertheless, let us carry the whole armour of God and fight the good fight of
faith till our Lord returns. –Boon Siang

I really thank God for the opportunity to attend the camp

and serve as part of the camp committee. Serving in this area has
helped me change my perspective of serving God and fellow
brethren. Service indeed is a great privilege, honour and joy. It
should never be a burden or chore. I enjoyed serving in the camp
committee very much. Throughout the camp, I was very happy,
something like joy overflowing. Perhaps it had to do with the
fellowship of the saints and the sweet bond in Christ that we
share. Really, fellowship in FCM is very special, hard to use
words to describe or express. Though many of us hardly know
each other, we are still able to share deeply and empathise with
one another. That to me is amazing. Hearing God’s Word daily
and having lessons brought to life in the special item touched me
and uplifted me. Thank God. I see myself in many of the bad
examples of the special items and I pray that God will help me to change and be a better
Christian. For some of us, there may have been nights of little sleep and physical tiredness,
but all in all, the effort and time put in before and during the camp was worth it all. Let us
serve God will all our hearts and He will reward in ways “exceeding abundantly above all
that we ask or think”. Press on! – Xiao Wei

Thanks be to GOD for all things. Even though all of us did not
sleep 8 hours a day, the LORD has been gracious to provide
us with the energy and the spirit to persevere. Even though
some of us were affected by sickness, we were able to help
one another, and show His love through our tasks. Indeed, it
is when we’re weak that His strength becomes more evident
in us. In this camp, we can see that all things work together
for good to those who love Him. Through the messages, the
most important thing I have learnt is to always fear the LORD.
Only then can we know how to seek the Law of the LORD,
and to do it, and to teach others. All thanks to GOD for
everything that happened in this camp, even for the pleasant service in the FCM camp
committee.

Once again thank God for another wonderful and blessed time of FCM camp! Thank
God I was given another opportunity to serve in the FCM camp committee this year.
Despite working with half of the camp committee for the first time, He has helped us to
work with efficiency and unity. The smooth running of the camp would have been
impossible without the Lord almighty.

Despite falling sick on the first 2 days of the camp, God granted me a quick
recovery. And during this time I was really touched by the concern and
prayers of the brethren. Surely, it has given me a foretaste of the bountiful
blessings that was to come for the rest of the camp! Although everyone was tired,
their spirit was never down, as they showed much enthusiasm in all the activities that
was planned.

Although we did not have as much of dorm fellowship time as we

would have liked, working with brethren in activities such as the
special item, cooking competition and discussion time brought much
blessings and joy to everyone.

Most importantly, we departed with additional spiritual knowledge

brought to us by Rev. Jack Sin, Deacon Lek and the morning
devotion speakers. I pray that Word of God have not been spoken in
vain and that all of us would apply the Word of God into our lives to
be a shining beacon for our Lord Christ. Though I may not be able to
join FCM camp again next year due to enlistment, I hope that more
would join us next year to partake of these blessings that God has
given us. Amen. –Beng Wee

I thank the Lord for such a blessed time of fellowship at my first FCM camp! Fellowship
here is unlike that of the world, warm and sweet as we all grow together as one body in
Christ in the learning of God’s Word. I’ll definitely not forget how everyone was so
forthcoming and zealous in their little ways of service, whether it be washing the dishes
or even clearing the rubbish! =) I’ll always remember what 1 brother shared during
testimony time - Fellowship here is like Heaven on Earth. Indeed, if you ponder hard
enough on this point, we are really blessed by God’s wonderful grace for His provision of
like-minded brethren, not only in FCM camp, but also in our own church and YF.

This camp also revived my thirst for His Living Word.

Messages exhorted by Rev Dr Jack Sin and Dn Lek
brought to light the pureness of God’s Divine Word. I finally
realised how important and wonderful it is to know who our
God truly is - His attributes, His sovereignty, His
unconditional election of us and His irresistible grace. It
dawned upon me how vital it is for us to fear the Lord after
understanding who He truly is and what He has done for
us. And the 2nd part of the verse of Psalm 86:11 “…unite
my heart to fear thy name” has never been more salient.

Serving in the camp comm has also been very edifying. I

learnt so many precious things from each member. From
learning to serve with meekness and joy, to learning how important it is to commit the
entire camp into God’s hands and praying for one another…and the list can go on and
on. =) Indeed, this camp was truly edifying and I could really see the working of God’s
hands in the activities. This camp was not only a wake up call for me to give back so
insignificantly what God has so richly and freely blessed me with, but also one which
really helped me prepare my heart to seek His Law and to teach others also (the latter
which I still fall short of!). I pray that all of us will always remember what we have learnt
at the camp and be convicted, for if we never give our heart to Jesus, we will never really
have a part in Him. –Esther Huang
