From 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.

we recorded 5 types of vehicles at the New Road bus

stop on 4th April 2016. There was a lot of traffic as it was lunch hour. The seven

types of vehicles seen were car, pick-up, bus, tractor, van, truck and jeep. We

grouped the vehicles into two categories: going to Basseterre and coming from

Basseterre. This was further grouped into license registration, including Private

(P), Taxi (T), Hire (H), Guest Tours (GT) and Rental (R). In total, we collected 325

vehicles. The recording and collecting process was fun but very tiresome.

In the first tally chart, it can be seen that a car is the most prevalent type of vehicle

in New Road as for every one bus there were 5 cars (1:5). There were 149 cars in

total. Coming closely behind was the jeep. There were seventy-seven (77) jeeps in

total. Next, they were thirty-six (36) buss in total. With fifty-four (54) in total was

the pickup. Next was the van with seven (7). The truck and tractor came in with a

measly one apiece.

In the second tally chart, we can see the dominance of the Private license (P) with

281, which most likely was persons coming from and to home for lunch. Also we

saw the Hire (H) license plate with twenty-eight, which continuously dropped and

picked up persons from the bus stop. Finally we had the Taxi (T) license plate with

nine (9), Guest Tours with one (1) and Rental (R) license plate with six (6) which

was scarcely seen as this is not popular tourist stop.

In the third chart, we saw 166 vehicles coming from Basseterre, most likely for

lunch or to pick up something from home. Of the one hundred and sixty-six

vehicles, there were seventy (70) cars, thirty-six (36) pick-up trucks, eighteen (18)

buses, forty-one (41) jeeps and one truck. There were zero tractors. Similarly

there were 159 vehicles going to Basseterre. Of the one hundred and fifty-nine

vehicles, there were seventy-nine (79) cars, seven (7) vans, eighteen (18) buses,

eighteen (18) pick-ups, thirty (36) jeeps and finally one (1) tractor. There was also

a traffic block as they was an influx of traffic coming from and to Basseterre

The following diagrams which showed the information observed in Task 2 for

Parts I (type of vehicle) and II (type of registration) were a bar graph and

pictograph chart. We used these diagrams because they were simple to create and

very easy to interpret. On the bar chart, the X axis was number of vehicles and the

Y axis was type of vehicle for Part I. For Part II, we used a pie chart. The pie

showed the percentage and the number of each license plate.

As the vehicles passed back and forth, cars were seen approximately 150 times, so

the car was the mode in Task 2 Part I. The mode in Part II was the Private (P)

license plate which was seen approximately 280 times also.

In conclusion, this project was a great learning experience which required accuracy

and reliability among group members. There were not too many interferences but it

was very tiresome writing down the direction from which the vehicle came, the

type of vehicle and the license registration of the vehicle.
