1. Discuss the importance of P.D. 1006. What is the salient feature that every teacher should value
from this Presidential Decree?
2. Explain why some schools lack the strands needed in the Senior High School. What are the major
problems? Cite them (at least with two major problems).
The struggle for excellence and the acquisition for quality education among learners of the basic
education under K to 12 program has been put into test, leading into one major question of
whether, “are we really ready for Senior High?.” Some have said, that the implementation of the
said program is a shoot for the moon, for they do believe that everything about the aspects that
comprises the idea of having the program is half – baked, curriculum, lack of classrooms, and
most especially teachers.
“Solve education problem first,” – Teachers' Dignity Coalition (TDC), a group of Filipino
educators with a membership of 30,000 teachers from across the country, who believes that the
education system in the Philippines would be of the same quality if the government will not give
solution to those problems, in which, as a Senior High School teacher, I do believe we are of the
same perception with regards to the issue, that the country, particularly the public schools is not
a K to 12 ready.
For some reasons, additional major problems, such as, the lack of learning materials or modules,
and equipments that to be utilized by the learners in order to meet the competencies provided
by the implementers are also considered as one of the factors of why they were not allowed or
unable to qualify their schools to implement some of the strands offered under K to 12 program.
3. If you are a teacher, why is it very important for you to give importance to your professional
growth and professional development?
For Nick Cannon,”My vocation is my vacation. I love what I do.” No other explanation can be
then expressed by the person who loved his work so much. The importance of professional
growth and development is not all about the distinction a person might earn, or the title he
might attach into his name, the position he might acquire, or the amount that will be added in
his compensation, every time he engages himself into a series of professional activities.
Teachers submit themselves into studies and trainings in order for them to be more intelligent
in terms of their respective field, for the purpose that they might be able to give a much greater
comprehension to the learners, deliver a much effective instruction, and demonstrate
professionalism on his or her prospective career. It also ensures ones capability to keep pace
with the current standards, keep ones knowledge relevant and up to date, and helps continue in
making noble and meaningful contribution as mandated by the profession.
